Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

Maybe the SNW Enterprise got damaged so badly, that it was uneconomical to repair it? Decommissioned and another TOS Connie got named or renamed to Enterprise?
Also... No.

Great Bird save us from an ending of SNW that tries to make the continuity "make sense". (I swear if Christine has her memory wiped or some nonsense I will throw my toy Enterprise through the TV. Harming nobody who actually makes the decisions, I realize that now.)

Wouldn't it be funny if it wound up happening that way?

Well we know what modern Trek writers think a "refit" is so anything's possible:lol:
I suspect after Picard season 3, they'll want to end on an exact recreation of the TOS bridge (likely from their set tour, I know they spoke ages ago to the owner about filming there), even though "The Cage" still wouldn't make any sense if we go from The Cage to Disco to Short Treks to SNW to TOS.

I do wonder what the current bridge would look like without all the lining lights turned on.

When I was setting up my home office I got two gorgeous "antique" looking lamps that looked like they'd come from a coal mine or something (or a Disneyland recreation of one anyway). They sat on the desk behind the monitors. They were so cool looking but they were always in my eyes.

I think of them every time I see all those lights in all the railings and steps and what not on SNW.

He's not going anywhere. (Fingers crossed.)

Even I will admit it would be hard to see a straight up TOS bridge in comparison with SNW.

I always hold up some of the props from SNW and Disco as "they way to go". Phasers, communicator, especially. (Although I love the tricorder.) Same details, same shape, same proportion, but updated and sexy. Pike's CHAIR, for that matter. The JJ uniforms. The space suits! (I love the SNW space suits to an unreasonable degree.)

I've seen a ton of really good fan designs of the Enterprise that took that approach, closer than what we got. For that matter, that's what they did in 1979.

If they're going to end the show with the "real" bridge (and I'm certainly not saying they will) I'd rather see them do something like that.

I'll also add that the SNW ship is the first one since The Motion Picture that I'd want to live on.

All reasonable points.

Until you get to: We made the container bigger. But we also increased what is in the container.
So either there is now enough room for TOS and not enough for SNW. Or there IS enough room for SNW but it's now too big for TOS. Of course it could be too big for TOS AND not enough room for SNW.

I don't think that engineering deck / cargo bay fit anyplace. They look really cool, so I'd love to be proven wrong.
Okay so after establishing that 442m makes sense for TOS we'll move on to your next subject, the SNW sets.
I don't know the dimensions of the internal sets from SNW so in the absence of information I currently have no claims to make about how they fit inside the ship. But apparently you do since you keep saying they don't, so do you care to share your measurements?

No measurements. Just comparison. Like I said, if it makes sense for TOS (questionable, but a reasonable argument) then it's probably too small for SNW.

If you want to claim that the SNW sets are the same dimension as the TOS sets then that's a different conversation and then I suppose we have some homework to do.

I think it's apparent that the SNW sets are larger, or even quite a bit larger than the TOS sets. (That's just the practical sets, never mind the digital extensions engineering that are MUCH larger than the TOS sets.) But looks can be deceiving and I've certainly been wrong before.

The size of the Enterprise in SNW doesn't bother me, it just means the rest of the Enterprises would need to scale a little. IE the Enterprise-C would likely have to bump up to 620m, the Enterprise-D to 690 meters and the Enterprise-E to about 750 meters.

Or not, whatever, its a spaceship.
A fictional spaceship in a universe that readjusts what a "meter" is along with the warp factors conversion list

I got to chat with a designer on Strange New Worlds a month or two ago and he said we had some great new sets to look forward to in season 2. At the time I was talking about Enterprise sets so I think that's what he was probably referring to, but it could be anywhere!

If that does turn out to be more Enterprise sets, where else do you think we might see? Where do you want to see?

From memory we've already got the bridge, conference room, turbolift, medical bay, transporter room, engineering, corridors, Pike's quarters, Spock's quarters, and...cargo bay?

I think I remember reading about a lounge/bar set. What else might we see if we're lucky enough to get more? Maybe nacelle maintenance? Deeper into engineering subcompartments? Jefferies tubes?

Is the cargo bay the shuttle bay or have we yet to see the shuttle bay? I don't remember.

I think the Excelsior/B is the only other one due for some resizing, since the previous number was always too small for it in the first place, and shots of the class in TNG were very obviously larger. A model maker at ILM said that there was no real definitive answer to the scale of the Excelsior as it was not built with one in mind, and assessment of the model's features along with comparison to other ships indicate it is certainly larger than the figure previously printed in magazine.

Once you scale up Excelsior, its size in the shots it shares with the Enterprise D make a lot more sense. Anything else is on a case-by-case basis, no need to scale C or D or E in response.

But since the Excelsior class is not currently relevant in any actively running Trek, it doesn't really factor into anything important, its scale is not a pressing matter. It just comes up in relation to the Enterprise's new scale, since the two classes had multiple interactions.

Yeah, IIRC, TOS re-dressed the briefing room for that, which made it look considerably less industrial than what SNW did. It definitely gave it a more chapel-like feel than SNW's afterthought that looked like they trundled a platform on wheels out of storage in an existing cargo bay.

I remember reading somewhere, back when we got our first clip from season 2, that we were going to see the Shuttlebay. So that'll be cool.

I'd personally love to see some of the science labs. Plus, maybe an armoury, similar to the NX-01. Maybe Malcolm Reed's grandkid is down there, loading the torpedoes.

We saw the forward lounge in season 1.

Hell of a view, tho.

You see Nurse Chapel in nearly every episode...:whistle::nyah:
And a lovely view it is!

Shuttlebay is probably #1 on the list, lemme see them big doors.
Would be happy to see some science getting done.
