Yep. The Kelvin is part of the same history TOS Kirk would have known until the moment that the Red Matter black hole begins forming, the ship detects it and it heads off to investigate.
Yep. There is absolutely nothing preventing the Kelvin from showing up in a show such as SNW. Hell, it already got name dropped.

I still think that opening scene in Trek 09 is one of the best scenes in any Trek Movie. Action and Heroism wrapped up in one.
I knew that JJ had done something right when he made my wife actually care about Star Trek with that scene.
