Happy Kelvin Day

Since the Defiant wasn't named after Rod-Rod, I don't see where you're going.

I just said it was registered after his birthdate: NX-74205 comes from 1974, February 5. Rod Roddenberry worked as the art department production assistant, so in a way he had more to do with the ship than JJ’s grandfather did with the Kelvin.

What does that matter? It matters not at all. It's a great deal more interesting that people who work on these shows put their personalities and little points of commemoration - as well as in-jokes - into their creations than it is that all the marginalia can be shoehorned into some make-believe "history"...a history, BTW, that's knocked cockeyed over and over and over again whenever the production team decides that a thing they want or don't want to do matters more than obsessive continuity.

But the little things are supposed to remain little, in the background, whereas if you’re seriously looking for a Kelvin Day, something that would blow 0514 out of proportion, then it’s only natural to think in more in-universe terms.

Ok, so then I suppose that Defiant Day is going to be Rod Roddenberry’s birthday, because he’s had so much to do with the ship? You see where this is going?
Since its inception, this thread has been about one thing. It's not very serious, but its intent has always been clear.

If you'd like to advance your notion that Kelvin Day should be some other day, based upon some-or-other in-universe reasoning you've devised, then by all means feel free to start a thread of your own, with that as the topic.

But please don't attempt to hijack an existing thread which is clearly not about that, especially not by trying to start an argument in what was clearly intended to be a fun thread for one specific day of the year. Poor form, that.

Aaaand if it's Defiant Day you want to talk about, well... for that, we have:

(Unless, of course, you mean the other Defiant, in which case there's a TOS forum. Orrrr the Enterprise forum, if that's the Defiant you want.

In any case, none of them belong here.)

I looked over the earlier pages and basically there are people saying “Happy Kelvin Day!” while making all kinds of related comments, so I don’t see what would be more on-topic here: “Happy Kelvin Day!” with no other comments? It seems quite relevant to propose a rescheduling starting on January 15, 2020.

I don't think it is as natural as you think it is. Right now, the argument feels like it is to be technically correct, and not honoring the original fun.

Personally, I do not need technically correct fun.

I can buy that Winona Kirk went into premature labor due to the Narada attack and thus gave birth to James two months early. Stardate 2233.04 does roughly work out as around the middle of January but if we had to go with a date just use the Prime Timeline birthday for Kirk.

More people would recognize the March 22nd birth date anyways from all the ancillary materials produced over the years. Plus it's William Shatner's actual birthday.

The whole point of this thread is that every year on May 14 we gather around for some good cheer and fun and reminisce about the Kelvin on the day represented by its registry. We goof for a day or so, the thread dies off then the next year we repeat. You either get that or you don't, and you clearly don't.

BTW, CBS officially recognizes January 17 as Enterprise day (dated rendered as 17/01). It's the whole reason Disco's second season premiered that day this year. So clearly the Studio Itself which owns the Trek franchise is okay with using a ship's registry number to decide which day should commemorate it. Settles the matter nicely as far as I'm concerned.

It's that day again.

05/14 2020. Kelvin Day 2020.

The world is a messed up place at the moment, but it's during such challenging times it becomes even more important to stop and take a moment to appreciate the little things in life.

And with that in mind, Happy Kelvin Day, everybody.

I didn't realize we are celebrating the release of these movies. I actually just rewatched all 3 in a week's span. Really gained a better appreciation of Beyond, while I still disliked Into Darkness the most.
