Happy Kelvin Day

l nominate January 15 for Kelvin Day on the assumption that stardate 2233.04, when the Kelvin Timeline was spawned, was actually .04 * 365 = 14.6 days into 2233 (regardless of Orci’s intent that the day of the year follow the period, since then I’d expect either .4 or .004).

It reschedules the point, that’s all.
No, it misses the point. The ship's registry is NCC-0514, chosen because May 14 is Grandpa Kelvin's birthday, for whom the ship is named after. Choosing a date in January does not reflect any of this at all. Which misses the point altogether.

Except that JJ’s grandfather and his birthdate have nothing to do with the Kelvin in-universe, no more than the Defiant NX-74205 is registered after Rod Roddenberry’s birthdate. The Kelvin would be memorialized on the (certainly not happy) day of its destruction, presumably January 15 or January 4, which would also be treated as the branching day of the alternate reality that the Federation would later name the Kelvin Timeline, in honor of the lost ship.

Sweet fuck.

It's just a bit of fun we all engage in every year on the date that the Kelvin's registry represents. A date we know has significance to Abrams, thus why the ship's registry was chosen to be 0514. when this day comes around each year, we recognize it, remember the Kelvin scene in Trek XI and have fun for a day.

You do know what fun is, right? Or do I have to track down a time when fun was mentioned or even had in a Star Trek episode or movie since apparently only something which is canonical in the Star Trek universe has any value or meaning to you.

You know what, I'll make it easy for you. Remember in Generations, when Worf got dunked into the ocean in the holodeck and Data asked Dr. Crusher why everyone was laughing and she said it was because it was fun? There, fun is a canonical Star Trek concept, which even the characters themselves engage in. Now can we please go back to our engaging in the canonical Star Trek concept in which this thread as formed with the intent to carry out? Does that meet with your approval?

Ok, so then I suppose that Defiant Day is going to be Rod Roddenberry’s birthday, because he’s had so much to do with the ship? You see where this is going?

What does that matter? It matters not at all. It's a great deal more interesting that people who work on these shows put their personalities and little points of commemoration - as well as in-jokes - into their creations than it is that all the marginalia can be shoehorned into some make-believe "history"...a history, BTW, that's knocked cockeyed over and over and over again whenever the production team decides that a thing they want or don't want to do matters more than obsessive continuity.
