I am going to watch this film tomorrow with my friends, apparently it has a Groot in it. I first learnt about Groots from @Serveaux in the Neutral Zone.

I am Groot! :D

Oh, that's right, I forgot about both of those.

Clearly I need to watch this fantastic film again.

Like you, I wept a lot during this film and almost all of it was centered around Rocket and his childhood friends. But this scene absolutely wrenched me as well. So damn powerful. Not only that, but when he insisted they needed to save everyone, the Guardians didn't hesitate.

Man.... When he faced off the High Evolutionary and without missing a beat suddenly they were all there. ALL of them. Fuck....

I also just realised.... When he led the children to safety, there is this moment where we see him facing a long dark corridor, as if facing his deepest fear and trauma and you kinda think we'll see the High Evolutionary there, but instead we see the room with all the cages....and you realise....
He IS facing his deepest fear and trauma.

Between the Snap and the Blip, Commander Nebula and Rocket Racoon spent 5 years alone together. Is that special relationship addressed in the movie?

Watch the Guardians' Christmas Special. You'll know the moment when you see it.

(And for anyone doing a rewatch of the Guardians movies before seeing 3, make sure you watch the Christmas Special, too.)

Just came back and man what a ride! Easily the best movie post Endgame besides No Way Home and for quite a stretch the first movie i truly enjoyed by Marvel ( last one was Shang Chi).

What a brilliant, funny, heartbreaking, creepy and wonderful goodbye by James Gunn to the MCU and i can't thank him enough. I am not one to cry easily in movies ( my friend though did at several points) but when Dog days are over by Florence and the Machine was playing at the end ( a band/singer i really love) i got misty eyed.

Points in no particular order:

- the Evolutionary creature designs were horrible and nightmare inducing. The fusion of cybernetic parts and biology was right out of a horror movie - what a sick and twisted way to show how evil the High Evolutionary is. Show don't tell at its best.

- Gamorra not getting back together with Quill. That would have been a very easy crowd satisfying thing to do but Gunn made the absolute right decision to further develop Peter's and Gamorra's characters. He finally dealt with his trauma and she has found a new family ( god i loved Zoe's ultrahappy smile at the end when she came back to the Ravagers and they group hugged her)

- every Guardian got their time in the light and closure of their story, showing their weaknessess but above all their strengths and what they brought to the Guardians

- the corridor fight - best team fight since the first Avengers movie

- the music.. 'nuff said

- this being Rocket's story it was heartbreaking to the extreme. We loved his abrasive nature but now we know why and it was horrifying to actually see what has been done to him rather than guess. My heart broke even more so than during Layla's and the others deaths (which i fully expected so no surprise) but when he got back to save the animals and barely collected the racoons but then saw so many other cages and no time left ( apparently) to save them and it looked like he would have to make the hard call - goddammit

- Quill has become quite the planner, able to improvise on the fly. Facing off () against the High Evolutionary and letting off a stream of insults Clark Griswold style was just hilarious and of course "Open the fucking door" ( in what would have been otherwise a generic culture/knowledge clash trope). "Star Lord will return" - that really caught me by surprise

- the new Guardians lineup - looked so awesome. I really hope they make these and find a director who can follow in spirit but please not Waititi, he ruined Thor even though his humor might be a better fit for Guardians. Disney should be ashamed how they treated Gunn and drove him right over to the DC ( but i hope his DC movies will be as awesome as his Marvel movies).

Easy an A from me and i can't wait to see it again.

I laughed, I cried, it became a part of me. :techman:

The 11am showing yesterday was full of my age group (senior-ish). We've noticed that at the other Guardians flicks, too. Who knows why? The soundtracks?

Anyway, great sendoff. Looking forward to what's next.

I’m glad that rabbit creature was killed. That was very creepy looking. It reminded me of that Alice in Wonderland movie.

Sad thing, MCU X-Men won't be able to use Mr Sinister effectively now...this version of the High Evolutionary totally has his schtick down.

Wow, that's horrible. First of all Floor was easily one of the most innocent characters in the entire movie, and her death along with Layla and Toofs was absolutely heartbreaking, and wishing a abuse victim dead because of what her abuser did to her is absolutely horrible.
I need to confess, I actually did get a little choked up during their deaths, and I this is only the first or second time I've actually had a comic book movie do that to me.

There's not really a whole lot I can add until this thread starts breaking off into more specific discussions of the film. Easily the best Marvel entry since Endgame, and in many ways, it surpasses IW/Endgame in emotional depth, character development, and sheer fun. I loved the final moment with Gamora and Peter and the way they were standing during their final words. Rocket's story was so well done I have no words. And all the Guardians had their moment to shine. If this is the type of films we can expect from the DCU going forward then the future is bright.

This interpretation of the High Evolutionary was wonderful. The MCU has been missing a truly evil, scene stealing villain. I would love to see Iwuji return in the role--and given how things are going with Majors, I would have no objections with the MCU changing up the Kang Dynasty plans and making the High Evolutionary as the new villain.

I don't think switching main villains now at this point will work, they have made too many steps in that direction and it's too late. However switching actors is quite a possibility and Disney has a loose trigger finger ( see the firing of Gunn himself), it depends how well ( if at all) Majors is exonerated in court but if they decide that it will be interesting to see if they will address the change of actors somehow, for example like they did in Iron Man 2 when they switched from Terrence Howard to Don Cheadle and made a quick meta joke in the movie.

I don't think there's any reasonable expectation of Majors being exonerated at all at this point.

Probably the only reason a recast hasn't been announced already is because it's too late to remove him from Loki season 2.

It’s easy to recast Majors. Just say he’s a different variant of Kang who looks different. Like those Loki’s.

I agree that it won't happen--my comment was rather saying that I enjoyed Iwuji much more than I enjoyed Majors in Quantumania. His performance in Loki was more interesting--and I wouldn't mind not seeing his Kang again.

Agree but then again his villain was far better written in one movie than Kang/Majors in several now. I come back to the old writer's saying - Show, don't tell. Gunn has shown how creepy and evil Evolutionary is whereas we only ever get told what a threat Kang is and it just doesn't have any impact, not even in Quantumania. Majors is a good actor, watch him outside the MCU and you will see. The jury is stil out if he's a bastard in real life but he only has himself to blame if his improving career is cut short.

Iwuji was awesome in the role and i loved how he slowly lost his marbles as the story progressed - from calm if immensely amoral scientist to full blown crazy lunatic. That's how you write a one movie villain ( i guess, we haven't seen the body ;)) and with just this one movie he's become the best villain after Loki and Thanos with an honorary mention of Shang Chi's dad.
