What grade would you give the Marvel Cinematic Universe? (Ever-Changing Question)

One can only hope. Blade at his best (as originally intended) is a horror character, and its the very thing that made him distinctive...meaning not being another character molded for / ending up on the typical MCU conveyor belt. He had a presence and world all his own (on the horror side of the publisher), and I would interested in seeing that kind of 70s edge in this new adaptation of the character.

I didn't care for either Season 1 or 2 of "True Detective". Although depressing, I thought the Season 2 finale was better written . . . or at least not as disappointing. The Season 1 finale was so disappointing to me that I found myself wondering if that was it. I didn't bother to watch Season 3. I had simply lost interest in the series.

I think we're talking about two different things here; there's the people the complained that she was being included at all in anything and how dare she steal Stark's legacy (whatever that means) before anything had come out, sight unseen, and there's the people that criticised the implementation of said character in that specific movie.

The later is fair critique, the former is . . . well I think we all know exactly what it is.

For the record; I was indifferent about her role in WF. Felt like they were trying to replicate Spider-Man's debut in Civil War, but it missed the mark and felt kinda forced. Also, probably the wrong model to imitate, since that example had the added benefit of the audience already knowing who Peter Parker is. Overall though; not detrimental or egregious. The actor was charming enough for what she was working with. Will reserve further judgment until I see her solo project.

I thought Spider-Man's debut in "Civil War" was forced and unnecessary.


By the way, I've heard rumors that GOTG3 is going to be dark and a little gruesome.

Not sure if this was posted already. I heard something about the Adam Driver rumor a week or two ago but couldn't find much more then.
Not to sure about some of Mila Kunis rumor. I mean, I'm ok with a different version of The Thing at some point, but I hope they do the original team first.

I've also seen Kirsten Bell's name bandied about for the role of Sue.
 
So with 'Blade' due to finally start shooting this month does the writer's strike mean they going to have to use the old script that Nic Pizzolatto was hired to replace or is it going to get delayed yet again?

My money is on delayed. And that's ok. I'm good with The Marvels being delayed so the final product delivers. In that case most likely SFX, since that has been an issue with Marvel as of late.
I'd rather they take their time and write something decent instead of just start filming it and write it as they go.

Absolutely. Writers strikes are suppose to be disruptive, therefore Blade will be delayed. That's how it should be.

Margo Robbie has the comic book look for Sue. Driver as Reed might work. Not familiar with Mescal. Might be too old for Johnny if they stick to the comics. Or they could pull a Bucky Barnes, :lol: Rumor has it not being an origin story so, again if they stick to comics, Ben is the Thing for the entire film. So a mocap performance. Might be like Ruffalo and the Hulk or might be a Rocket situation with different actors for voice and mocap.
 
James Gunn talked with io9's Germain Lussier about the complexities of putting together the final Guardians of the Galaxy film. It's spoiler free so I've posted it here for people to read and not worry about spoilers in the review thread.

This part in particular stood out:

io9: That kind of leads into a little bit of what I’m going to say next. This movie, obviously, it’s the end of the trilogy. You’ve got lots of great payoffs, but it’s also really dark. Like that Peter stuff is probably the happiest of some of the dark stuff. How did you sort of calibrate what the line is in a Disney Marvel movie of how deep and dark you can get?

Gunn: Well, I never take that into account, but I do take into account the audience. So I think the only place I ever decided to pull back is with anything about animal cruelty. So there’s animal cruelty in the movie. It’s something people are squeamish about. It’s something I’m squeamish about. But I don’t show it. And I think it’s just a place that I had to be really careful with because I don’t want to traumatize people with the animal cruelty. But I also want them to be able to see characters who are being treated cruelly, who are animals and half animals.

This isn't the first time I've seen the discussion of animal cruelty being a theme in this film so it's good to see Gunn talk about it more here. Makes me all the more excited about seeing the film tomorrow!
