Behold the mighty sandrider!
Bolding mine.It is so great - i love to see the ecstatic joy of the Fremen when they see Paul ride a Sandworm.
So let's see about the scenes:
- Paul talking to Chani about water and swimming
- Jessica has become a full Sayyadina and is travelling somewhere in a palanquin
- Irulan speculating that Paul may not be dead ( possibly after it comes to be known that the Fremen are unifying and becoming a greater threat, possibly because of rumors that they have a leader)
- Harkonnen burning Atreides stuff
- Jessica and Paul are talking about Leto and revenge ( Paul is possibly telling Jessica of his plan to lead the Fremen in an uprising)
- quick shots of several characters including a first look of Feyd
- a machine gun fires at something below
- a group arrives at possibly a sietch that contains the Water of Life ( or they make it there for Jessica's trial to become a Sayyadina)
- Paul fights either a Harkonnen or a Sardaukar
- quick shot of Feyd screaming in the arena
- Jessica gasps, possibly after she drinks the Water of Life, her eyes are full on blue ( looks gorgeous)
- Paul sets up a thumper, Chani looks worried and scared, Stilgar gives him advice
- Paul manages it with some difficulties and he is a full Fremen now
- the Fremen and especially Chani are overjoyed that he rides the worm ( loved Stilgar's expression of awe)
- a squadron of Ornithopters is approaches a small mountain ( possible Sardaukar attack on a sietch?)
- Feyd fights in the arena while Margot is watching ( still no Hasimir, wonder why)
- Jessica (?) is being escorted by Fremen
- Paul and Chani kiss in the desert
- Jessica (?) is captured by Harkonnen and Margot is watching her ( or i am mistaken about the actresses but they look like them to me) - can't recall Jessica being captured though in the book, so it may be a normal Fremen woman about to be interrogated
- Feyd and Margot are close to each other ( Margot quite possibly seducing him as a contingency for the Kwisatz project)
- quick cuts leading to Jessica having an argument with Paul and Paul erupts "That's not hope!" ( love the outburst delivery by Chalamet)
- Paul approaches a large gathering of Fremen
- the final fight between Feyd and Paul with the iconic line "May thy blade chip and shatter!"
- Paul has adressed the Fremen and they all roar in excitement, this is the scene where he unites them to take the fight to the Harkonnen and the Empire
Soooo great. Did i miss anything?
It's actually not good if he's omitted, since he's part of the reason for Paul's actions in the final part of the story. Paul recognizes Fenring as a part of the Kwisatz Haderach program that failed, and feels some sort of bond with Fenring as another unwilling participant in the Bene Gesserit's genetic manipulations.I enjoyed the following comment on YouTube more than I probably should have:
"Fun fact: Cristian Bale gained 450, 000 pounds to play the Sandworm in the film."
This looks really promising. I expect Count Hasimir Fenring's character has been subsumed into Margot Fenring's somehow. Not really a problem for me, given the omissions in the first part.
Irulan should have been in the first movie.Looks good. It’s funny that I knew the context of about 90% of the scenes shown. I’ll glad the princess character is in this one. She’s a pretty important character down the road
She isn’t really in the first book. They gave her more screen time in the miniseries since they wanted to give the character more depth as they planned to do the sequel as well.Irulan should have been in the first movie.

Besides, Fenring is Shaddam's favorite advisor, so it makes no sense not to have him there.
Irulan should have been in the first movie.
That's because she didn't. The miniseries greatly expanded her part, and Julie Cox knocked it out of the park. She made Irulan my favorite miniseries character, and that's some doing, because in the novels Irulan is a really unlikeable character whose one redeeming feature is balking at even the suggestion that she cause Chani to miscarry if she becomes pregnant. FH's first draft of Dune Messiah actually killed her off, as one of the many victims of a Fremen mob when they came to kill Mohiam.i don't recall her "investigating" the situation on Arrakis - she's basically just name dropped a few times in the book until the end. The next book though she becomes more important, it could well be that Villeneuve is hedging his bet on building this character if he or someone else decides to make a third movie.
Since Villeneuve already said several "fuck yous" to Lynch, why would he balk at copying the miniseries as he copied Lynch, while simultaneously bragging that he's following the novel faithfully?I wonder about the rights issue.RE Irulan. From the brief moments with her it seems she has the same arc as in the miniseries, but the miniseries role of her believing Paul survived the attack and investigating it was created entirely by the miniseries production team. It's a unique plot point specific to that production. I wonder if they dropped cash or are just saying "fuck you" to Comcast.
Looks like it might be better than the first part, I'll give it that.
