Yep. Its also a nod to the Shatnerverse because Spock visited Kirks grave in the first of his books, only in that one there was a space battle overhead and kirks body was beamed out
I like the visuals (i.e., the work columns built next to the saucer showing they've probably been doing repairs on the ground to prep it, the floating barges with the tethers, etc.). But does it fit? Wouldn't they just get a couple of starships capable of atmospheric flight to tractor beam it into space and tow it? On the other hand, I think the TNG technical manual lays out a process where the saucer would be disassembled on the ground and the parts transported out.
I argue simply, yes. This strikes the correct *emotional tone* for the recovery (road to rebirth) for the Enterprise-D and Spocks handling of Kirks sudden repappearance and death. Does it work precisely how we know TrekTech to work, maybe not 1 for 1, but it hits the right notes.
Damn that is some movie quality VFX. I mean that shot of the saucer section on the ground and the tugboats above it.... damn. also Spock-O.
According to Memory Beta, that's the service number for Yeoman Colt. She's one of the two lookalikes they cast for the faux-BTS footage under this project name.
I‘m a bit confused. Why the TMP flashback and why are Star Wars vessel used to lift the saucer section?
It’s part of an ongoing project by the Roddenberry archives to bring to life some of the TMP era novel stuff. We don’t know exactly what those ships were doing, the lines were not obviously under tension
Is this deep fake though? I thought the guy playing Spock was wearing prostheses, not that his face was digitally altered.
The Spock for this is an actor named Lawrence Sellek. He is wearing prosthetics and makeup. His facial structure from the eyes down is *extremely* close to Nimoy, the primary makeup is the forehead and obviously ears
Older Spock looks kinda deep-fakey to me. I wouldn't be surprised if they used some post processing to age him up.
This looks amazing. I just wonder where is it actually all going? Is there a purpose to this or a longer version down the line? And it was at night if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if it was a flashback but more of a flash forward for TMP Spock? We saw the 1701 crashing into the atmosphere of genesis also.
