DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

I'll always like that one for the Clark Kent vs Superman fight alone. And Annette O'Toole as Lana Lang

But to get to Superman vs Clark Kent you have to sit through all of Richard Pryor's stuff and there is way too much of it, especially for how badly its written.

Is it REALLY that much worse than Hackman's moronic Real Estate scheme or how he was dumb enough to think that he could control Zod and co in Superman 2?

I think what you mean to say is: Is it that much worse than Gene Hackman's brilliantly entertaining and deathlessly classic take on Lex Luthor?

(And yes, it is.)

With Superman III or Supergirl, you just have to get into the right mindset and embrace the Silver Age cheesiness. Gus Gorman was one of the film's weaker elements, but he wasn't any worse than the comical scientists that Clark and Superman often got involved with in the comics, on radio, and in the '50s TV series.

Anyway, here's my review of S3: https://christopherlbennett.wordpress.com/2012/05/25/re-evaluating-superman-iii/

Lots of additional footage and dialogue in this Japanese trailer for The Flash (though, sadly, none of the new stuff involves Kara):

I do think one or two shots of her were new there. Especially where she and the two Barrys are halting their run and the one where she's about to punch that missile.

Yes. 100% yes :)
I just finished watching the theatrical cut of Superman II (brought to you by Coca-Cola and Marlboro cigarettes) in 4K. I completely forgot about those weird telekinetic powers Zod and co. have. It’s never explained at all. Neither is that S shield thing or the amnesia kiss.
The fight sequence is also weirdly shot. Not the fight itself but the way the public are just watching on. The city is being destroyed by these god like beings and there are people using the phone booths, ordering food at cafes, shopping etc. It’s a weird disconnect that makes it come off as comical.

IIRC, Richard Lester added a lot of those bits in the reshoots, specifically to make it more comical.

I thought that Hackman was great in both Superman I and II, and that Superman I and the Donner Cut of II are absolute classics so yeah, watching Richard Pryor be a mediocre actor with terrible material is much worse to me then watching an excellent actor like Gene Hackman act with good to great material.

I mean I can understand finding Lex Luthor's stuff a bit too goofy I guess, but Pryor's stuff is much worse. Plus the bad buisnessman that his character works for is just store brand Lex Luthor anyway.

It’ll be hilarious if Batman is say thing the “let’s get nuts” line to Faora. He wouldn’t last long. :)

Can we please be sure to spoiler-tag any reports of info from screenings of The Flash? I realize cameos being cut from the film are kind of the opposite of spoilers (though I had no idea Gustin was supposed to be in it in the first place, other than the implication of that "CoIE" scene), but that's only one step away from revealing cameos that are in it. Just trying to get ahead of that.

I thought Hackman sucked in Superman 2, but then again I think that whole movie had serious problems. Many more than Superman 3 did.

Webster in 3 actually predates Businessman Luthor though. But you are right that Pryor's stuff is a lot goofier than Hackman.

Yeah. It made me less interested in the movie. It's no longer a "fun" moment. It's an "every other production with a legacy character did it, we need to too!" paint by numbers moment.

Its poor fanservice and cheapens the original intent of a line or phrase, much like "I've got a bad feeling about this" in the Star Wars OT--was turned into a "See?? He/she said that favorite line! Aren't you getting that old feeling again?!?" fanservice-ing gimmick in any SW productions to follow.

Reminds me of how Shatner refused to say "Beam me up Scotty!" in the 80's because he didn't want to feed into that aspect.

Yes, and Shatner was quite correct in his decision.

I want this movie to be good because for me it's basically the last hurrah of the Snyder continuity.

Agreed; Snyder created this universe, and events in The Flash only happen due to all which was set up through MOS/BVS/WW1/ZSJL/AM1, so for all of the great work which produced that amazing set of DC films, it deserves a an

There's far too many "Eh...you want to do that? Ok, whatever" inventions in the Salkinds' Superman movies.

As it was intended; Donner had more than enough silly moments in his Superman film, but the Lester additions to II fell right into the deep end of a pool which--at that time--perceived some comic book movies/TV through the lens of Dozier's Batman TV series, where there seemed to be a running contest of just how silly one could get with content meant to be taken seriously in-universe.

Interesting. Anyway I’m watching a more serious movie tonight. Batman and Robin.

...while sober?
