Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

There are too many fans getting all worked up about friggin starships and NOT realising Star Trek....

Was...

Never...

About....

Spaceships!!!!

You just made that a priority.
That's why my favourite scene in Star Trek was always Kirk and Scotty just walking around staring at Chekhov's body for 5 minutes while emotional music plays.

As I mentioned, it wasn’t so much the naming itself that was problematic. It was the needlessly convoluted way in which it was done, both for the Titan and for the Enterprise.

I posted earlier... I get that when I was spoiled. Then I saw the scene. And it worked in the emotional concept of the story.

Unfortunately, when you treat setting as a character that is what you get and the emphasis becomes objects not people.

I get that too. Doesn’t make it any less convoluted.

I so want to get on a live talk with you about this because I feel we both agree and disagree and talking about would be really fun with a couple of beers and then just really be happy about having a good talk about Star Trek. You know?

Fans made the Enterpise a character. Producers called it SFX

In my opinion, that attitude does a disservice to the people who spent their time and energy designing these ships. I don’t believe it was just a job to them.

I would be happy to do that. :)

This. Its not that the ship itself is a bad design....but WHY erase the name of the Titan and not give the name to a different, newly built NeoConnie, if they want to REALLY go for an illogical retro-design succession? Just make a new one, slap the Enterprise G label on it, and go from there. The Titan deserves to be called the Titan. The idea that its somehow a compliment to rename it and give it the Enterprise moniker is disrespectful. Period.

We're so doing a live talk about this because I feel we have a lot of common ground and differences that would be amazing and fun for both of us.

I think if they were going to put a ship into mothballs in the first episode that it should have been the E-E and then you still bring in the Titan as the F, you've given fans of the E-E closure on it, and there's an Enterprise that had a run of a few decades instead of the usual five minutes. And then the E-D saves the E-E in the finale or something.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was ‘disrespectful.’ But it is very odd. But that’s just par for the course starship-wise in this show.

I'm sorry, am I supposed to be grateful that my favorite ship of this entire Trek era got teased as part of the season, only to be revealed that it's already getting scuttled and then having like 30 seconds of screentime before being hastily supplanted by an antique kitbash that's inferior in literally every way?

Being pissed off at that isn't "entitlement." It should be the expected reaction to a backhanded, disdainful fake-out like this.
There's still two other series set before Picard Season 3 that could potentially use it more.

The F seems to have just been stuck in to canonise that design. The E being used made a lot more sense to me.
