I always thought it had more to do with a family connection when it first happened but now that she isn't related to any Skywalker I think that's probably the best explanation.

The really confounding part of all of this, is that 'Battlefront II' was still fairly active at this point (they were even releasing tRoS content) so how hard would it have been to just do another free tie-in single player DLC like they did for TlJ, and deliver the message that way?
Still not ideal, but at least that would make have made some sense!
That or the living kyber really wanted to get all of that off it's chest.

Yep, that's how I felt in the theatre on opening day. The scene where the Storm Troopers are advancing into the Ewok village and I'm thinking "Yes..These ridiculous Teddy Bears are gonna be toast.." as the Ewoks fling sticks, stones, and crudely made arrows and take out all the advancing Troopers...I swear I heard a collective groan in the theatre at that point and a couple of, "come on!"'s too.
At the end with the Ewok Tree Village celebration, and the 3 force ghosts appearing, my disgust at what the STAR WARS franchise had become was complete.
(We all walked out going...What, and the Fleet of Star Destroyers that was kicking the Rebel Fleet's ass just up and surrendered instead of moving in and finishing the Rebels off after the Death Star blew up?

I really appreciate seeing this perspective. I grew up seeing ROTJ first so Ewoks were always a part of Star Wars for me. So, it wasn't until the PT and joining a fan group that I learned of the Ewok and ROTJ dissatisfaction.^^^

My only Ewok dissatisfaction as a kid in 1983 and 1984 was not getting more of the Kenner Ewok action figures.

In one of the video games I had the, er, privilege of playing as Vader and getting knocked on my ass by an Ewok with a slingshot.
From what I heard that was the original idea but for some reason George Lucas thought it was incongruous that if Chewbacca came from such a primitive world, how was Han able to train him to be a good co-pilot in the Falcon?
Wookies I could see standing up to Imperial Stormtroopers; those ridiculous growling teddy bears.. no.

That's odd. Typically the finales are the longest episode of the season, but this will in fact be one of the shorter episodes this season.
I suppose a cliffhanger is likely.
As a kid I loved Ewoks, I still do. As you say, they are just a part of it. I think they are relatively tame compared to some of the truly goofy stuff you see in some Star Wars backgrounds. The costumes still look great and they work in the context of the original trilogy. Lucas was riffing off of all those old serial tropes and here we get a unique, very well produced take on the old 'captured by a cannibal tribe in the jungle' story.
I don't get the hate. They worked. They still work. Whatever the original plan was, IIRC some sort of mothball on stilts, it would have been worse than what we have. In fact, the originally conceived 'Stlit-Ewoks' would probably have been almost entirely replaced by CGI now, because they would have looked shit if done in 1984(3?).

It was an alright finale but I was just covering more to be honest. Poe Dameron would be losing his mind with all the flying Stormtroopers here. 
I wasn’t expecting Gideon to be killed off so quickly. Feels like a waste building him up all season to just off him like that.
So it’s look like the next season will be more one off stories with him doing missions for the Galactic Alliance. Probably killing the rest of those people we saw at the beginning of episode 7.
