Spoilers The Mandalorian Season 3

All the murmuring around the webz about them killing off Din has me worried. Normally, I don't give that sort of thing the time of day, but for some reason I'm getting bad vibes.

Were these the same murmurers that claimed Pedro Pascal had been secretly fired and being replaced by Boba Fett two years ago? I wouldn't worry. They're not about to kill him off anytime soon.

More to the point, Din's story is patterned on Westerns, and the only way 'western' protagonists really die is heroically like Paz Vizla just did, or ambiguously riding off like in 'Shane'. I can't see Favreau going against the grain on that one or repeating himself two episodes in a row. Plus as of right now, Din is playing damsel. Not exactly organically conducive to either scenario. If anyone's dying in the finale, it's Bo Katan (note: she won't die either.)

I have seen a new theory that Axe Woves is the traitor who betrayed them all to Gideon and his forces so I can definitely see Axe dying next week after he's been exposed as the Mandalorian who sold out his brethren for money or for a place of influence in Gideon's new order on Mandalore.

Hell, Gideon might kill him himself after he's served his purpose.

That sounds more like grasping at straws than an actual credible theory. For a betrayal to matter you have to actually care about the betraying. Until exactly one episode again, Axe Wolves didn't even have a name as far as people that don't read the credits are concerned (i.e. 90% of the audience.) Moreover, in the last two episodes he's been a (mild) antagonist. Not much of a plot twist to have that guy most of the audience thinks is a jerk turn out to be slightly more of a jerk, is it?

The only character who's betrayal would mean something (and said coat turning being at least vaguely credible to begin with) is the Armourer. And even then, I'd put that at about a 0.1% chance.

Plus of course the idea that any of this was a set-up runs in direct contravention to what we saw in the actual episode. Gideon's mole on Coruscant had to tell him that those factions had allied and were likely heading for Mandalore. He was both visibly shocked to hear it, and used it's threat as a means to leverage reinforcements from Hux. This is not a "let's have someone lead them right to us so we can jump them" baited trap, it's a "oh crap, they're about to stumble right into our secret operation because we set up shop by the thing they want to reclaim, so let's be ready for them" ambush.

They're not going to kill off a character played by Pedro Pascal at this point. Besides given that it's based on Lone Wolf and Cub, with a smattering of Sergio Leone Spaghetti Westerns thrown in; if and when Din goes out, it'll be in a blaze of glory taking out many many Goons.

Be odd to have Din swearing loyalty to Bo-Katan only to have him die the next episode. Like, would we be passing the torch (and Grogu) to Bo? She's going to be focused on Mandalor. Din is the one more likely to go off on a random adventure. Though the fourth season plot might be all about fighting the Empire and holding Mandalor's area of the Outer Rim from the likes of Thrawn.

I do expect Axes Woves to be killed mainly because so far these past couple of episodes have shown he's actually a pretty terrible fighter. Like, how has he lasted this long among Mandalorians anyway?

I don't know, he went up against both Bo and Paz without a helmet on and came out with his head still attached. That has to take some degree of skill.

It's a pity that all of this is becoming a lead up to the godawful Sequel Trilogy and especially the atrocious "The Rise of Skywalker". What a waste.

Eh, Rise Of Skywaler was the only Sequel movie I would class as mediocre (but still necessary), but seeing all the rich world building with the naive, overworked New Republic and squabbling, ruthless Imperial warlords makes me so happy and gives much needed context to the ST's political events.

For me, the funny part is that a lot of the people whinging about the New Republic's portrayal here are the very same that have been whinging about "EU erasure!" for going on a decade. When was the last time people actually read any old EU books? I mean right out of the gate in 'Heir to the Empire' there's a sub-plot about political infighting and factions within the NR like the Bothans and the Mon Cala vying for power, prestige and influence, and it continued to be a trend right up until the end!

The New Republic was always guaranteed to start off with a bit of a limp. You don't just shake off a generation of oppression and war so easily. Hell, the same was probably true for the Galactic Republic and the Old Republic before it. Note that the 'High Republic' era supposedly started about 500 years before the prequels. By implication that means it took them half a millennium to get their shit sorted after recovering from the various Sith wars and the Fall of the Old Republic, kept it together for maybe a century or three, then slipped right back down into ruin.

I dont think we will ever see a reboot.

But I would not be suprised if we get some soft recons on some of the worse aspects of the sequel trilogy.

I mean retcons have been part of starwars since the orginal trilogy, it's how we got the Luke leia incest kiss.

They have already started retconning chuck wendigs God awful aftercrap trilogy while keeping some of its characters and core themes.

The premise of how Palpatine returned and of Rey's parentage were outstanding. The premise that the Sith transfer their combined power into the apprentice when the apprentice kills the master was brilliant.

I was less sold on the idea that a lightsaber could be passed from Rey to Ben from a distance, but it was set up in the previous film when water was passed between them, as well as arguably by Luke's projections of himself and the Falcon cockpit dice, as a (much) lesser form of that ability. So, why not that? If a Jedi can levitate themselves and objects, why not also teleport obejcts, as an even more advanced ability? Plus, Rey and Ben formed a special dyad.

All that said, the plot of TROS was terrible, and it contained many absurd elements, such as how the Star Destroyers needed central coordination to launch. Still I enjoyed the film a great deal, and I'm pleased that MANDO is setting up the whole ST.

SW fanbois: terminally whinging since circa January 31st 1997.

I also think Emperor Palpatine's multiple massive space fleet build ups and scrappings/destruction across decades must've turned much of the galactic economy into a basketcase, and hamstrung the New Republic for well over a generation.
