Spoilers An argument that the problem with the first two seasons was...

Just was thinking about this as I was a huge HIMYM fan. The show averaged 8-10milliom viewers per season with the final season being the largest win. Up until the mid 3rd season when Britney Spears guest starred, the show was consistently on the bubble for cancellation. One could also argue, creatively, the show went on about three seasons too long. But to each his own on that one.

I was very lucky for getting the opportunity to attend a live taping of a Big Bang Theory episode and while i was amazed about the professionalism of the whole crew it made me realize that a staged show which gets filmed in 4 hours tops (excluding editing) is naturally so much less expensive than a big budget 21st century sci fi series. I guess CBS just thought that they could make the same money with less effort. And i guess they were right…

Season 1 had very good ideas. The only downpoints were killing Data again and Picard's synth resurrection body. Data should've been immediately resurrected at the end of Season 1 minus makeup like now, and resurrected Data with his android intellect cures Picard of his irumodic syndrome (or whatever it is)

Season 2 should've then been spent with Data, the new gang, Picard, and Rios on the Stargazer exploring the dimension of the evil synth worms. They time travel to the synths' past (not 2024 Los Angeles) and experience firsthand what prejudices the synths endured that turned them evil (and here's where Patrick can put all the immigrant/refugee etc. standins he wants, in the form of the persecuted synths). The kicker at the finale of Season 2 is the revelation that synth scouts have *already* been in the prime galaxy for decades if not centuries, and that Dr. Noonien Soong was in league with the synths and used their knowledge to build Data (thus explaining why he's so special)

Season 3 then deals with the changeling infiltration, with the revelation that the changelings were in league with the evil synths after the end of the Dominion War. The role of Jack falls on Soji, who as Data's daughter must decide once and for all if she will help the synths, the Federation, or find a third option.

But Disco spawned them ...

Even though Disco LOOKS successful and has all the hallmarks of BEING successful, it's actually a failure -- is that what you're saying?

Head beginning to spin ...
We all know that failures have more money spent on them to ensure they look like failures. That's just logic!

It's literally based off of Discovery elements, so not sure how else to take this as a spin off of Discovery with that connective tissue.

SNW is based on characters established in 1965, not STD. And that just leaves a future academy show that is little more than a press release at this point.

Connective tissue my ass.

It's starring a main character from Discovery.
Stop moving goal posts.

And DS9 starred two characters from TNG but it says very clearly "Based Upon Star Trek Created By Gene Roddenberry." Not "Based upon Star Trek: The Next Generation Created by Gene Roddenberry."

Even Robert Meyer Burnett admits that the studio meant Discovery to go five years, and that the fact it did means it was not a failure. Only if it were a runway success would it have had more seasons.

The reason why he gave in with season 3 is rather simple: He says that after "Nepenthe" he realized that the show needed the other TNG characters, too. The original idea was always to bring them in as guest characters if given the chance, but this idea changed as well.
Oddly enough, if the production hadn't been forced by COVID into time traveling to modern day Earth, they likely would have remained in the 25th century for Season 2, kept the core Picarcd cast intact for Season 3, and just met other TNG characters along the way.
