Mot would have come into his own. Alas, he would also have been too easy to replace.

It's true! That would have been the smartest move! Replace the guy responsible for haircut screenings with someone who was immune to the testing!!

Insidious! Now THAT should have been the plot of Picard S3!

Ironic. I'm getting accused of making up facts.
But this is a perfect example of made-up facts, personal headcanon/fanfic.

Brilliantly stated all around.

It's bizarre. Some people would apparently invent wild theories completely out of their own butts, utterly devoid of textual evidence, rather than just take the writers and the very clear intent of the show at face value.

Go figure.

Why is the celebration of every single villain under the sun being brought up as a valid reason to celebrate Shelby dying? What did she do that was so horribly evil that it gets her counted among such illustrious people as the Duras sisters or Joffrey Baratheon?

Nothing at all.

But I think some of the replies (including mine) are not so much about Shelby as about the suggestion that it's somehow inappropriate, just in general, to enjoy watching a disliked fictional character depart this mortal coil.

Personally, I don't think of Shelby as a villain. She's a hero in the NEW FRONTIER novels.

I think the reason why people didn't like Shelby was the way she went about her ambition. Ambitious women is not a problem. But going behind the back of people in the chain of command is.

Riker made it clear he would be presenting all options, which included hers, to Picard right after the briefing. Shelby instead did an end run around him with the express purpose of trying to look like the best candidate for an XO.

That's not respecting the chain of command, and that is ultimately why Riker was irritated at her in the turbolift. And rightfully so.

If anyone under your command, man or woman, did that, of course they would be looked at badly. It also shows that the person's ambition outweighs following orders, and that is definitely a problem in such a setting.

(And to be clear, I never saw Shelby as a villain. Far from it. She brought some spice to the career of Riker and the situation. That was much needed. But she let her ambition override her training and better judgment.)

^that, and she challenged a main character.

If Jellico had a show, without his confrontation with Riker (perhaps no Chain of Command two-parter), we wouldn't be debating his behavior.

while sci-fi also isn't Patrick's thing, he's basically a workaholic and welcomes the opportunity to work with his TNG friends again.
I wonder how the atmosphere was on set while filming this season: did the old cast revert to their typical TNG shenanigans?

Sometimes I wonder if in the long run it would be better if Sisko were played by another actor like Phil Morris or someone.
I disagree: Brooks was perfect for the part IMHO.

My real concerns going into Ep 10 are that the moment they assimilated Alandra, they have all knowledge about the E-D being ready and all its weaknesses if they didn’t already knew from all the infiltrated changelings.
I think that the weaknesses of a 30 year old ship are pretty well known anyway.

Also, starships are never really truly independent, are they?

I thought the ships still interface with “Federation Databanks” for a variety of data like the HMS Bounty did in IV
They can interface if they want to, but they are not forced to.

So couldn’t Starfleet/Borg “update” the E-D software and connect the ship from the backend
Mandatory on the air updates make for awful security. Apple stopped doing those around five years ago, sooner or later Microsoft will too, we hope.

Tricorders can detect internal organs. Keep that in mind.

1) Bashir said that Krajensky registered as human

2) Basic Logic

A) A Tricorder can detect internal human organs and determine their status. There are countless examples of that in multiple shows.
B) If Changelings had no internal organs, a Tricorder (that can detect internal organs) would show that.
C) This would nullify the threat of Changeling infiltration in the entire story. It would make it irrelevant to separate a part of the body from the Changeling because you could easily detect them by scanning them.

3) The Great Link forced Odo into a human form with internal organs. Therefore Changelings have to ability to create internal organs.

Nothing in DS9 said the changelings have just been giving off false biological signals that read as organs.

I think your assumptions are the most logical explanation: skilled changelings (the one who would be sent to infiltrate enemy organisations) could mimic internal physiology enough to fool the late 24th century sensors of the tricorder, less skilful ones, such as Odo, didn’t bother with internal organs at all. Sure, it’s not impossible they had some other ways to fool the tricorders, but it seems to me that would be more complex than just mimic the organs.

I don’t think there is an issue with Picard here, though: Starfleet over time obviously found ways to scan for the changelings (they explicitly say that sensor technology has improved a lot and also mention that they scan for changelings using the transporters) and these new shapeshifters are much more perfect and therefore harder to detect.

Nope.

And that's all you. Don't expect me to rejoice over this random death for imagined personal slights.

Shelby was Ruthless in TNG.

Which can be a good thing, but not when the rest of the cast are playful sad eyed puppies.

Great on Final Frontier, especially the spoilers where she can't stop wearing, and hola New Frontier.

In my opinion, Shelby was the perfect choice for the role. I think the easy option would have been Admiral Sheer Fucking Hubris, but Shelby was cool to see again and then it made her death shocking. It's not like the character or actress were going anywhere, though I guess if you were into the books then it might sting a little.

While there have been a couple female Bolians having hair, all the men we ever saw were bald. (With the exception of the toupee wearing one in DS9's "THE MUSE".)

My point still stands that there would be some species that don't have hair.
We saw a male with hair in Prodigy, but he was balding.

Even if Picard just waited a little longer before telling Jack, the attack/takeover wouldn't have happened or at least the Changelings would have had to find another excuse to bring the fleet together.
I surprised that Picard went in alone to discuss with Jack. It should have been him and Beverly together. But, yeah, even just wait a bit . . .

Yeah glad we got Shelby. If we're lucky she might have survived. Admiral Sheer Fucking Hubris is probably retired like the rest of the Picard seasons 1 and 2 characters that no one cared one bit about. Lol

Well said. I’m just watching it for the old characters doing their stuff. Riker is great, and having Data back is a real treat.

I’m clearly very easily pleased! Which is partly just a function of getting older. I mean, I even liked the Rise of Skywalker. Who cares about the plot holes and Mary Sues - look it’s Luke! And I like Rey and BB8. Glad to see she’s coming back in a new film.

Yep, very easily pleased
I have to admit, I'm surprised at how glad I am that Data is back!

Didn't he also only have three fingers on each hand? Either Bolians have some unusual racial variations or he wasn't pure Bolian.
