Just noticed one detail: “mr Data set a direct course to Earth”….shouldn’t that be the conn’s job, that is La Forge in this case? Geordi seems to be piloting out of the space dock after all…Well, perhaps with the low crew things are set up a bit differently and warp systems are handled by the Ops officer…
Probably trying to recreate the scene from First Contact forgetting that was a different ship.

It did bump a tiny bit for me, but it's not as though Data can't do it. Picard's old, he forgets sometimes. ;)

Like in The Battle Geordi was at the helm yet was reporting on the ship coming in on his sensors, mind you data was right there.

It’s just how it be

I think he told Data to lay in the course because Riker had just ordered Geordi to beef up the shields, and presumably Geordi is busy running whatever automation that’s controlling the drones doing other stuff on the ship.

I wondered about who (or what) is down in engineering looking after the warp core. I know it fits the moment for them to be on their own doing all this by themselves as a team, but they could’ve easily written it in a way where you had Geordi staff the Enterprise with the Starfleet personnel under his command at the Fleet Museum.

Yes, this is hardly the first we've seen a starship ran by a few people, or even just one person before.

PICARD: Mr. Data? Set a direct course for Earth. Maximum warp!

DATA: *thinking* Hmm... Should I freak him out by pretending to be Lore for a moment? Here I am, positronic brain the size of a planet, and he just wants me to program the GPS. It's tempting...

DATA: At maximum warp, it will take us sixteen days to reach Earth. I am, however, aware of a shortcut through a spatial fold intersecting Uranus.
