At first glance, I had thought Geordi had added in 8 extra escape pods, but apparently the model makers for Generations forgot to add them in.

That has always been a conceit of the Borg ever since TNG. Having voices helps the audience understand what the Borg are thinking and doing. Having the Borg just do stuff without ever speaking might be more realistic but it could be hard for audiences to follow.

Not really. Perhaps when talking outside of the collective. But not while talking inside. That was something that started a bit on Voyager but was REALLY egregious here.

Oh sure, I don't mind when they are talking as they do stuff, but chatting as they just sit there seems a bit silly.

Well, got that right. I love this. Makes perfect sense and maybe this will lead to the final defeat of the Borg. The Queen and her cube looked in rough shape. Admiral Janeway's virus must've really decimated the Borg.

This is really giving me Palpatine vibes.

These are not the Chabon-Hippie writers room S2 Borg trying to make them all nice and friendly. These are not the tamed Voyager Borg. These are the absolute horrific BORG, the original flavor. Troi's reaction is perfect as that's how anyone should react to a Borg Cube. This episode corrected the damage and nerfing to the Borg that Voyager did, and erases the asanine S2 Borg made friendly for todays softer audience.

OMG! Season 3 is so much better than season 2! So much improvement! Much better writers!
Yeah, right.

One question that has been constantly in the back of my mind throughout this season.... Has this show brought on any new fans? I don't think it has.

Yes, a show should definitely appeal to its long time fans, but it should also work to bring in new ones. The obvious nostalgia bait of the cast, the villains, the Enterprise-D, are all clearly a big deal to fans. But, imagine you have never seen a single episode of TNG, or any Trek for that matter. Is there anything in this show to appeal to the audience at large?

Discovery certainly made efforts to grab new audience members. Prodigy is almost entirely based on getting new and younger fans into the franchise. Even Lower Decks has some broad appeal with its humour. Strange New Worlds definitely makes an effort to get new fans on board, but Picard..... I don't think so.

And maybe that's fine for THIS show. But so many people are throwing around the idea that they want "this" to be the blueprint for the franchise going forward, and I cannot disagree more.

To copy this would do nothing but stagnate the franchise. We need new fans because we're not getting any younger. To appeal only to Trekkies will be a surefire way of killing this franchise.

With 9 out of 10 episodes outta the way, I think I can safely say that "More Terry" and his plans for a "Star Trek Legacy" series are exactly what this franchise doesn't need.

I don't know how many genuinely knew fans it's brought in, but I think it's retaining or even recapturing some old ones. I know a couple of people IRL who quit Picard in season 1 or 2 "in disgust" but are enjoying this one, and now talking about giving some of the other new shows a go.

It's a fair compromise. If they have the time and money to satisfy all demographics then it's all good in my books. I would love to see new and different shows with new faces...as well as 'legacy' character shows. I think they have the room to do both...at least thats the impression they give.

I think that’s why I’m more interested in the miniseries concept Kurtzman mentioned not too long ago. It allows for a little more flexibility in the storytelling than just “Let’s just do a show that revisits everything!” That’s just a limited scope. It doesn’t sound like it, but it kinda is.

Did TMP thru IV bring in new fans?
Same deal

Star Trek Legacy being a new Hero Ship exploration show akin to TOS, TNG, and VOY set after PIC?

Then yes, that is what this franchise needs.

Still hoping we get a flyby or close-up beauty shot of the NX-01 Refit before the end of the last episode.
I want to see every ship in the museum up-close. I'm really hoping for an online interactive SF Museum.

They had an epic 3D interactive Ross class online around S2. We might never get that level of detail on all the museum ships, but I can still hope.

I thought I'd be disappointed in it being the Borg but they've done it well

In my head canon though the Borg were done in until the Protostar crew woke up that cube in Prodigy so this is all Dals fault.
