Spoilers Season 3 wild speculation

I'd be fine with a genuinely evil, terrifying Borg to make a final hurrah send-off and have that be the end.

However, I do understand why it may be disappointing to some
I used to hate the SNW Gorn but suddenly in the face of massive Borg repetition they suddenly don't seem so bad now. At least SNW tried to do something different with them. Heck, I'd be fine with Frontier Day being a Gorn trap for a breeding frenzy, where swarms of Gorn jump out of nowhere and start laying eggs in people, green lizards rip out of Tuvok's chest, baby Gorn start crawling up Riker's nose and he starts screaming, and Jack goes all Lizard and Frontier Day ends in a green lizard bloodbath. At least it won't be yet another Borg story.

Major Grin uses his editing skills to make a Borg case...
If it's not the Borg Matalas has been giving clues to tease us and then produce some other foe.
Also, Vadic and the changelings look like they resisted the red tendrils thats why they have the scars on their face.

If not Borg, there's only one other logical conclusion: Jack is a baby Q.

Basically, Q fucked around with Picard's brain during the events of All Good Things. It was his "gift" to him, because he loved Picard so much and wanted him to eventually join him in the Q Continuum. However, Picard ended up dying from complications instead. Picard passed along his Q juice thing to Jack, who has started manifesting Q powers. Whoever is behind Vadic's faction of Changelings needs Jack's baby god powers to destroy the Federation.

Conjecture in favor:
  • Terry Matalas has said that the most popular fan theories are all wrong (which would presumably exclude the Borg).
  • It's the most logical/long-running TNG thread to pick up on other than the Borg (who have admittedly been overdone).
  • An advanced reviewer has apparently said the end of Season 3 retcons/changes Season 2 considerably, which, if it's not the Borg, means something regarding Q
  • John DeLancie said once in an interview that he shot scenes for both Seasons 2 and 3.

My prediction for the final scene:

PICARD: Once again we've saved the galaxy from an evil threat.

RIKER: What about that weird disembodied face guy, huh? I can't believe who HE turned out to be!

JACK: But what about my psychic powers and visions of a red door? What's the deal with that?

PICARD: Of course, Jack, you deserve to know. The truth is-

CUT TO BLACK

END CREDITS

The big bad of Picard season 3 should be very grateful that the plan to destroy the entire Starfleet all at once will be a success, only a little over 500 years later than planned.
I think the final scene of Picard will have them thinking they have saved the entire Starfleet. Then they cut to a scene…500 years later… The Burn…

My odds:
  • The Borg are behind Jack's visions -- 80%
  • The Borg are not behind the Face -- 75%
  • Q is not dead -- 67%
  • Armus is somehow involved -- 50%
  • Gul Dukat and the Pah-wraiths are involved -- 25%
  • Something from DISCOVERY is involved -- 5%

Rewatched Sub Rosa last night in preparation for the big reveal. Fully agree with the hypothesis. It's set in 2370 - 31 years before Picard season 3. Seems quite clear that's what they're going for Ronin

I hope Q has something to do with the finale, seeing as he said he was dying, but didn't know for sure.

Honestly I would be fine with Q! The Borg are a little tired and unless there's some kind of new spin on it I'm not sure it will be that effective. I actually liked the Borg stuff in S2 but it was like a total afterthought.

Picard episode 03x09 spoilers ahead:
Pretty sure the Enterprise D crew is going to save the day once more. But what about the older Starfleet officers? Apparently most of them got killed during the Borg mind invasion, leaving only younger, inexperienced Harry Kims behind.

A new Trek show, set in the 25th century would have to deal with this. It could even be the premise of all future shows, set during the TNG timeline. Imagine a show, where the oldest Starfleet officer is 25.
