Yeah I've seen enough dismissive, smug and condescending posts in this thread (for example) from many of the regulars (in regards to fans of Pic S3) that are not 'keeping with the alleged ideas Trek promotes.'
Dare I say, some gatekeeping?

And, I'd say part of it too is likely some people being anti-anti-NuTrek. Granted it's actually worse on Trek Twitter, where some are attacking season 3 because "those people" like it.
People taking this stuff way too personally is something else.
To be fair, I think everyone posting here probably takes Star Trek too seriously. "Fan" is short for fanatic after all, and when hard core fans approach something new, with very different priors, the disagreements tend to be amplified. And for the lore/continuity segment of the fanbase, without the multiverse safety valve that JJ Abrams at least offered, other NuTrek has added zero sum game valence.
There's also the factor of interacting with people online you don't know in person. I've been lurking on this board off and on since ENT, but very rarely posted, so this is actually new to me. Star Trek, especially post-2009, is far more heated than the other forums I stop by focused on Blu-ray discs and travel...
There's a massive difference when you interact with people online whom you've already met in person, however briefly, compared to just a user name.
Praising one series in comparison to another is perfectly valid. Some fans see effective storytelling and character work in Picard S3 that they couldn't find in the previous Pic seasons or Discovery, and that's fair discourse.
Season 3 is just season 1 with better production design, member berries, and nostalgia! But keeping it just to the series of this sub-forum, season 1 showrunner Michael Chabon told Variety he intentionally made aspects of that season divisive. Whereas you have Terry Matalas telling some of NuTrek's strongest critics that he hoped season 3 would appeal the entire fanbase (it's not like he said he hoped the season would piss off say the core DISCOVERY fanbase).
the problem with docks is that they are very heavy and, by their very nature, immobile. After awhile one tends to feel immense pier pressure.
What got me was not including a hyphen and then spell check blanking on my botched attempt at "anonymity".
I'd love to see more of the 25th century, based on what I know of where Pic S3 ends off. However, if we don't get it, it's no big deal. Ep 9/10 is a nice funeral for 90s era Trek.
I gotta disagree here. That would be an epic fail. If they want to do demographic micro-targeting instead of going four quadrant, make sure you have something on the menu for everyone. Otherwise it is zero sum, and you will have winners and losers.
That said, now that Covid filming restrictions are being lifted, that will add 25% back to the budget. Terry has proven he could do season 3 with the restricted budget of Covid and the heavy above the line talent. A LEGACY could come in under $5 million per episode. So for me I'll remain cautiously optimistic a LEGACY could still happen. It's not even First Contact day yet.
