Spoilers Picard Season 3 - Preview Photos/Videos Thread

At this point it feels like they have a lot to do in 4 episodes if everything is getting wrapped up. If they make the last half of Ep.10 an epilogue of sorts, that;s 3½ episodes of action.

It feels like a lot of the season has just been in a build up/holding pattern. 6-8 have been described as act 2 and 9-10 are said to be the finale.

That's been kinda the flaw with PIC and DIS in general. they seem to have enough material for about a 2-part episode, and then pad it out to 10. Realistically so far:

-Picard got a mayday call from Bev, met up with Riker and headed out to find her
-Found her, got chased, did a little cat and mouse, and escaped.
-went to head back, got caught by 'not' Starfleet, ran again, went to Daystrom Station
-Stole Data/Lore/B4/Everyone else and ran again.

That's 6 episodes, and while I can appreciate giving room for scenes to breath, or adding sub plots to pad time, I'm not even sure that what's above would have gotten us to the To Be Continued screen in an original TNG episode. There's just not a ton of distinct stuff here so far. Still enjoying it better than the first two seasons by far (feels more like a continuation and not the 'sad sack' future we got in S1), but could have been tightened up more.

DIS has been the worst offender by far. Ep1 lays out the issue, they spend 2-9 chasing dead ends, making no progress (while emoting a lot), and then early in Ep10 they quickly find the solution and solve the problem, leaving 10 min at the end for more crying and some hugs...

I'm not even sure the whole subplot about something stolen from Daystrom, but it wasn't the main thing the thiefs wanted even makes sense now that we know the changelings have infiltrated Starfleet. Why didn't they just take Picard's body like they did anyway. How would not having the portal attack on M'Talas changed anything?

What made me ask the question is how it feels, with only 4 episodes left, we're still in "mystery box" mode where we don't know a lot of what is going on or why. Some episodes reminded me like season 1.4 and 1.5 where they just had to pick up Elnor and Maddox before they could proceed with the plot.

There's also something claustrophobic feeling about this season.

-Episode 1: got a mayday call from Bev, met up with Riker and headed out to find her
-Episode 2: Found her, got attacked, spent the episode deciding what to do near a nebula.
-Episode 3: The attack continues. Hide in the nebula. The Nebula scene in TWOK as an episode.
-Episode 4: Entire episode in the nebula. Got out of the nebula and ran at the end
-Episode 5: Got caught by 'not' Starfleet, ran again
-Episode 6: Picked up Worf, went to Daystrom station, picked up Geordi, ran again.

Episode 8 clip is up.

My take on the trailer:

In the trailer for episode 8 we see crewmen being slaughtered by the changelings. It's well known that higher up's in Starfleet have little feelings about sacrificing the lower ranks to save the hero characters. In fact it's a Star Trek trope " Redshirts. " I think that yes Picard would willingly sacrifice crewmen to allow for a fighting chance for everyone else to live, instead of absolute death if they were actually capured by Vadic and the fleet. Picard knows the only way to truly "sell" Vadic to make her believe she took the ship is to have crewment be killed.

So, what should Picard do, according to you? To show himself in front of Vadic, then transform himself to become Rambo with his abundant plot shield and Deus Ex Machina cards? That kind of plot is so cheap and stupid. Specially when Patrick Stewart himself is already old and physically limited.

If Picard shows himself, He'll die. Then the show is over with the victory of Vadic. Beside Picard, who can help those crew members? 7 of 9 and Shaw are already captured, Data and Laforge have their own problem.

Jack is only a one person. Nobody in sane logic will send him out as a one man army to beat all Vadic's goons in order to save the crews.

Plus, the crews are starfleet personels. They should have been trained with basic combat skills in the academy. Shouldn't they can help themselves to survive in this kind of scenario? How can they become a flock of sheeps who can only wait to be slaughtered? That's their own fault.
