Switching back to PIC, Patrick Stewart didn't want to do another TNG Movie. He didn't warm up to the idea until after the first season. Even here, in the third season, they're only getting the old crew back together slowly. PIC Season 3 is still the same series more than some people would like to admit.

And some people will be horrified to hear this, but PIC is really DSC with a TNG Movie skin. I hate to break it to you. It's still the same book, but with a different cover, and a lot of you fell for it because you can't see it. If you only like PIC Season 3, all it does is prove to me you had the biases I always suspected.

So maybe you all who fall under this category should give the other stuff another chance, except this time actually be serious about it.

Well it would be better then this failed project STD that they are now shutting down. And they as we can see returning to classic Star Trek. So it means that you're wrong.

Not sure a show that went 5 seasons on a streaming platform can be called a “failed experiment”. We’re seeing a return of classic characters, but not the old format of storytelling. Picard is very much in keeping with Discovery in that regard and in how it’s filmed.

Same general aesthetic, similar tone, similar level of stakes, serialization, the main characters are initially doubted and have to prove themselves or otherwise save the day...

Exactly so. The filming style, storytelling and emphasis on specific characters, rather than an ensemble all stands out as part of DSC's general tone. The stakes are always high, and the personal emotions are very raw.

Actually, what it is is cognitive dissonance. We have to distance the thing we like from the thing we don't like rather than accepting that sometimes a new thing is OK, and it's OK to like it even when it's new.

What I see in Picard Season 3 is proof of what I long suspected. That as long as the characters are familiar names, and the graphics are close enough (LCARS) characters can act like 21st century people without question.

Nothing wrong with the same overall, I do see it, its just the writing, Picard s1 and s2 were horrible, Disco season 3 and 4 were also not good to me. But, Picard S3, and Disco S2 mainly, when your hot, you hot, doesn't matter that the shows have the same tone etc. I'd expect it to since Tng, Ds9, Voyager, Enterprise also had the same tone in one way or the other.

Not only that there are no rivers of tears, but also interior of Titan is not big empty larger than Borg Cube. That stupidity is something epic. So PIC season 3 is nothing like STD.

Pff. Won’t deny how ridiculous the turbos on Disco are but still… if that and crying are your big argument? Wow. I can think of bigger issues with the show and I like Disco.

Which goes to show that the aesthetic is not that important as the writing. That you can deal with themes of trauma, and emotion, and all that shows have done and been successful with and less successful with if you have solid writing.

Which has been my point of view the whole time. The complaints around uniforms, or ship designs, or prop designs, or interfaces are secondary and tertiary to writing and characters. If the characters don't work, by all means share that and I hope you find a Trek that does. But, that doesn't make the uniforms bad, stupid, or whatever pejorative people can think of. Just say "Not my cup of tea." And stop making the same cup of tea and complaining that it's not your cup of tea!

I want to point out something that slipped under the radar.

Imagine that we had nothing after Star Trek 2009, Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond and that first thing we saw afther those Kelvinverse movies was Star Trek Picard: Season 3

It sounds like the Kelvin Films are now "Acceptable Star Trek" according to Old-Schoolers. The line keeps inching forward.

TOS only lasted 3 years and spawned multiple follow-up shows.

DISCOVERY lasted 5 years and did the same.

How is that a failure?
