Anyone here have a Tribble? (and does it give you any trouble?)

I watched Troubles With Tribbles for the first time yesterday, great episode I must say, one of the best comedic ones for sure.

Since I'm a little bit of a collector, I decided to buy one of the cute furry little buggers. Only one problem; I can't find one that I want!

The problem is NOT a wimpy "They are all so cute", the thing is the ones I see on Ebay is from the 25th anniversary celebration and have no sound or movement, I at least want some sound from the Tribble I buy.

I found one with sound and movement on an online shop, but those were according to them "about as big as an American football" :wtf: I'd rather have a "life-size" Tribble.

So, does anyone here have a Tribble among your collections, and if so, where did you get it & what features did it have? :)

I have a chocolate brown coloured tribble that's the same size as the ones on the tv shows. When you squeeze it, it does the chirping squeaky sound.

Right now it's happily sitting on my DVD shelf watching for any snacks.

Cool, does it do the "pleasant" sound, or the sound that is being made when they sense Klingons? Where did you get this one from?

QVC used to sell very nice authentic Tribbles.

I'm sorry, but what is QVC?

I have several. The idea factory, the same toy manufacturer as made the Star Trek beanie toys (and the "Insurrection" palm pet), did the trilling tribbles around the time of DS9's "Trials and Tribble-ations" and the 30th anniversary of TOS. They came in several colours, and the sound replicates their reaction to Klingons. They seem to have a non replaceable chip/battery sewn inside. I bought one (and was given a second for free when I bought my TOS Season Two DVD boxed set).

Keep an eye on eBay: there are a lot of authentic prop tribbles from the DS9 episode out there, but hard to authenticate them. A ball of fluff is a ball of fluff. These don't really trill, of course. (A lot of facsimiles were given away on the streets of American cities and in subways to promote "Trials and Tribble-ations".)

Check the online store of the Star Trek Experience.

I have some from the 70s and 80s - a few are homemade from various conventions. Lincoln Enterprises also used to have fairly good tribbles in various colours and sizes, some with simple "dog toy" squeakers inside. "The Making of The Trouble With Tribbles" had the simple pattern reproduced: essentially two ovals of fur fabric, sewn together and stuffed.

Pride of place, though, belongs to an authentic screen-used, two-toned tribble from TOS - it was the very last one David Gerrold found in his garage about six years ago, and it came to me with a certificate of authenticity from DG, signed copies of his TOS and TAS tribble scripts, and a first edition of his Tribble book!

I have one with the original Star Trek tag still attached. Alas, mine is mute -- or a mime. But the one I bought with him still trills when it feels like it. My friend finally took the battery out because it creeped him out at 3 in the morning.

When I typed "tribble" into the QVC search, it came back "Your search for "tribble" was changed to "trouble". We found 31 results for "trouble".

When you search "Star Trek" it has some games, but no tribbles.

I used to have a tribble, it had a removable 9V battery. I think it walked away with a friend's toddler.

Good, informative post, thank you! Very cool thing to have in your collection, a on-screen used Tribble from TOS, must have cost you quite a penny.

The online store for Star Trek Experience only had the football-sized Tribble, might get that one after all, since I probably won't stop after only one.

That's the one I have--I bought a VHS 2-pack with "Trials" and the original "Trouble With Tribbles" episodes as well as the Tribble itself. And yes, it made the 'chirping/klingon near' noise, at least until the battery died. I was working on the set of a tv commercial and one of the prop guys offered to crack it open and replace the battery, but I wasn't sure he could fix it, so I declined. The battery/chip is a small, squarish cube maybe a couple of centimetres on a side. You can feel it if you squeeze the tribble hard.

Even better though--the VHS copy of "The Trouble with Tribbles" was signed to me by Shatner himself!!! My roomate at the time was working on a (different) TV commercial with none other than the Shat himself in it, and crew were allowed to get him to sign one thing--my roomate grabbed my VHS tape and got him to sign it for me. It's definitely one of my more treasured Trek collectibles.

I bought a few Tribbles from a vendor at the Secaucus NJ star Trek Con. They have a generic squeaker inside them. I left the on the dashboard of the Zhang Heng for a day or so and they left behind some Tribble fur. They fortunately have not begun to multiply.

They go back on the dash for future shows and expos.

I bought one for my mom out at the Experience. Funny little thing, I had to turn it off because everytime I breathed on it it would go off! Its kind of funny though that they have them sitting all over the gift shop at the experience, just in random places.

That's funny since they do that on the episodes as well. Clever :)
