Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

Damn, where did this Sharks team come from? People were writing them off as a lost cause not too long ago. I guess I could ask the same question about Calgary, especially with Keenan around. But that other shoe just doesn't seem to be dropping.

'nucks @ Ducks tonight. Anaheim is on the latter half of a back-to-back, so... who knows. Maybe playing against Bert will spark something in Nassie (Todd is healthy, right?)

Yeah, the Sharks are burning things up. I don't know who or what lit a fire under their ass--they've just gelled.

"But ... but ... but ... Pronger doesn't know his own strength! He didn't mean it! He's a champeeeeeeen!!!" And a thousand other excuses they'll make for the thug. What's it this time? "He was just bracing himself to skate away" or something?

He doesn't get a suspension for that? :wtf:

I know the Ducks are in the middle of a playoff chase and probably anything I say would be construed as bias because I am a sharks fan, but that sure looked diliberate. This is not a good inconsistancy to have in the NHL. He should get what Simon got, 30 games.

I kind of thought the NHL was getting better at dealing with this crap earlier this season when the Flyers were reverting back to their 70s roots, but now we've got morons like Tootoo taking 100m runs at people, and thugs like Pronger getting away with "the Simon". So not even known offenders on both ends of the skill spectrum are getting dealt with properly anymore.

11 Straight now. The Sharks are like the Houston Rockets of the NHL. They keep on winning and in regulation too. Tonights effort just looked like domination and then great defense. I do have a concern though in that their schedule gets tougher with teams like the Ducks (Which I'm hearing now that Pronger will get at least 5 games suspension, but I still think it should be 30) and the Stars. The Sharks just can't seem to beat them and that is going to be a criticism as the season ends and the playoffs begin. Now post trade deadline and we're at the end, I would love to see how they do.

Pronger might have been able to get away with saying the first step was accidental, but the second looks like he thought he could get another step in there for good measure.

Two nearly identical incidents (Simon's) with a 30 game difference in suspension length? Clearly there's a different set of punishments for superstars and regular players. The rules may be the same, but who cares now? Is that how it goes?

I know the Predators do not get a lot of love, but I am glad that they had an important 3-1 win over the RedWings today. I have not been to many games this season since I no longer live in Nashville but I am hoping that they can make it to the playoffs and today's win is a good start. I am going to their next home game on Tuesday, March 18 (my birthday!!!) against the Capitals.

I just like seeing the Wings go down. :)

So the new video that surfaced forces the league to suspend Pronger for eight games. Still not enough, but at least it's something.

I do too. Helps the sharks out a lot.

Only 8. I guess that's something but it should have been a whole lot more than that. Like I said, it's showing a bad inconsistancy for the league.

The good news is the Sharks won't see him next week. That is nice.

If Simon got a 30 game suspension, 8 games isn't any better then, say, nothing with respet to consistency.

8 games is still a joke. The only other player with as many violations as Simon is Pronger. If the league took Simon's past into account in handing out his 30 game suspension, then should they not take Pronger's past history into account as well? Oh right I forgot, he's a supastar...

I like the Preds! I wish they weren't chasing Vancouver's play-off spot, but if they bumped out Calgary I'd be a pretty happy camper.

Hey this is a league that looks for any excuse to not suspend players no matter what they have done. They wonder why they get no respect. Hey Gary it's because you won't even follow your own rules and precedents. Hey I know Simon got 30 games and I knew Pronger wasn't going to get that because he wasn't coming off a 25 game suspension, but 8 is a joke. I mean all that does is give him time to rest up for the playoffs. He should have been suspended for some of the playoffs. He may be a star but he is not the reason that I would buy a ticket.

I also have to wonder who was hiding the video of the stomp because I know that it was Rogers Sportsnet that found the good picture.

If I were a conspiracy theorist I would think something was up!!!

I am hoping that Preds make it to the play-offs so that the new owners will continue to have faith in the team. Even though I do not get to go to as many games as last year, my brother is a season ticket holder and he is saying that attendance lately appears to be up which is a good sign. I will be there Tuesday and I cannot wait.

Also, the Wings lost again today against Columbus.
