next CBS airdate of remastered "Trouble With Tribbles"???

This is a companion thread to this on the DS9 forum: http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?p=1437510#post1437510

I have been trying unsuccessfully for years to get my kids interested in Star Trek - they like sci-fi, but view Trek as just "that show for nerds".

But while she was at a recent sleepover, my youngest daughter (8yers) caught the remastered episode of TOS' "The Trouble With Tribbles" and *loved* it, and now has been me to find a copy on DVD of that she can watch! And after I told her about the DS9 follow-up, she wants to see that as well. But I don't have the DVD's of either series (and are the remastered TOS DVD's even out now - and if so, only on HD-DVD, right?)

So I was wondering if anyone knew when CBS might re-air the remastered TOS "Trouble With Tribbles" as well?

And also if anyone here might know the next time Spike will re-air "Trials & Tribblations"...

Any help in converting the next generation (no pun) of Trekkies would be greatly appreciated.

(I will Nexflix the DS9 episode if I can, but I won't be able to reinstate my Netflix account until next month,)

I am *SO* stoked a child of mine is finally interested in Trek - and help here would be greatly appreciated!

^ How about buying them?

Well, if he doesn't want to use iTunes, buying the remastered Tribbles would be a neat trick.

Though he could always buy the original version, which isn't effects-heavy and has some pretty good SFX anyways.

If I could just buy the individual episodes - and not a whole boxed set - I would, for sure.

Anyone know if iTunes has them? Or Netflix?

Also, I have no way (yet) of burning them to DVD - for personal use, of course - since I have no DVD burner on my PC. (I may get one next month.)

Really, my youngest daughter has been begging me to get her copies of these episodes, and I'd love to ASAP.

I haven't seen the remastered version of "The Trouble With Tribbles". But you're right, the original isn't exactly effects-heavy. In any event, the effects aren't crucial to the story anyway.

Also, I don't have an HD-DVD player and no plans to buy one (unless now that its a dead format I see one for *dirt* cheap - but I don't even have an HD-TV!)...and isn't TOS remastered just out on HD-DVD now?

If anyone has a copy of the DS9 episode for sale however...I wouldn't even mind a DVD with several episodes, but an entire season is out of the question for me....too much $$$. I'm not made of latinum!

If you're just after Trials and Tribblations, it's on the Time Travel and Klingon Fan Collective DVD sets, which would probably be cheaper than a complete season :)

Well, that and that original TOS tribble episode - but the remastered episode will be tough to find I think....

But thanks for the advice, I'll look those up. Likely I'll Netflix the DS9 episode...and try to find a friend with a copy to the remastered episode. (I know the SFX aren't *essential* to the story, but she's a kid and used to modern FX...)

Isn't that exactly what I said?

ETA: Oh, I misread that. The remastered version has some gorgeous shots of K-7, but that's about all that distinguishes it from the original. (I thought that the Enterprise's approach to K-7 was better in the original version, honestly, and the smaller shots of the Enterprise and the Gr'oth look very fishy, but this was one of the earlier episodes.)

Well, the original version of The Trouble with Tribbles was released on Volume 21 of the individual TOS releases. This particular volume also has I, Mudd and can be found for cheap on DeepDiscount.

The HD-DVD set of season 1 contains both HD-DVD and standard DVD versions of the remastered episodes, but with Tribbles being a season 2 episode, that won't do you much good. iTunes has both original and remastered episodes, but again, only for season 1. If you insist on the remastered version, you'll have to find it through different channels. For the original on DVD, check eBay for it used or DeepDiscount as Turbo recommended. It's also available on Netflix.

Well, remastered would be nice just because my kid is 8 and used to more modern effects - and the older kids (10 & 13) will just spend too much time nitpicking at the FX and not paying attention to the episode. :(

Well, I found the DS9 episode on Netflix, but so far have been unable to find the Remastered TOS on iTunes or Netflix... :(

Might check Usenet or Bittorrent sites if you're into either.

Thanks but we aren't allowed to discuss itorrenttay here long story...but I have looked, and can't find the TOS remastered episode there anyway. Or on iTunes!

What I need is a friend with a copy...

*bump*

Still looking for re-air dates for this and the DS9 "Trials and Tribble-ations" - the making of a future Trekkie may depend on it!!!

THANKS!

With the remastered Tribbles, it's more than likely not going to be shown before the beginning of September as it's not on the schedule (which has a slim chance of changing if we have another problem like we did with The Cage, and even then there's no guarantee of them showing Tribbles) - following that it might be broadcast in the 2008-2009 season, however we won't know the schedule until August 2008-ish.

I heard that after the 'first run' of the remastered episodes in the weekly format they have been show; CBS will then make them available to local stations (cable and otherwise) as a 'striped' package - meaning Channels like G4 and even TVLand coul air the remastered versions on their own schedules.

The entire purpose of this remastering was to keep the original Star Trek as a viable series for syndication revenue in the day of HDTVs; so eventually (ie within te next year or two) - you'll see the TOS remastered episodes somewhere.

I believe it was also stated that the 'weeked package' of remastered episodes would be pulled once all the remastered versions had completed and aired and had one repeat.

The Trouble With Tribbles has already aired twice btw.
