Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

I'm old school, so I've always preferred the round primary hulls.
Enterprise-D with it's somewhat oblong hull was the last new ship that I really liked.

The elongated hulls are silly looking as far as I'm concerned.
There's no reason for them to be streamlined in the vacuum of space.

Spacedock, now apparently a museum

It's the reverse of Disco, where everyone said the ships were too modern looking. Now we're 120 years later (or whatever) and the ships look too old:lol:

At least its not another Excelsior Class which kicked about for basically a century.

I think they look about right for early 24th Century, we know Starfleet already had great success with stuff like the the Excelsior to just refit, refit and refit. So for all we know these ships are only 26-27 years old, 30 at the most if we're going with the year star date TNG ended. Lot of technological changes have probably happened as well.

What is good is, again, the looting of the Star Trek Online Assets Bin as many of the ships had a more "movie quality" in their design ethic to them and it slots in well.

There was an old theory the more streamlined the hull, the better the warp field geometry and engine efficiency at high speeds. Something about a ship's warp bubble roughly matching the shape of its hull.

At first I thought hat circular ship is the Shran class from STO but it ain't.
To my untrained eye, it looks a little bit like the mission scout ship, merged with a circular saucer or donut, and large impulse engines at the aft end.

It’s just the Sagan class sans the lower nacelles. Why it is a different class rather than just a Sagan variant is a mystery. But then Starfleet was never consistent about such things.

Thank you! I didn't spot the upper nacelles.
I hope STO includes the two-nacelled version as a variant of the Sagan class. Perhaps it could be the DeGrasse Tyson class.

The two nacelled version has its own class name, but I forget what it is at the moment. I have it written down on my shiplist spreadsheet. If I open it today I will look for it.

Does the Ships Computer on a Degrasse Tyson pump out the tweets he endlessly repeated tweets about stuff like "the only place you kiss yourself on a mirror is your lips" completely at random?

"No, we don't know why it keeps doing it, we even had Miles O'Brien himself take a look and he couldn't figure it out either."
