Does it hurt to be shot by phaser?

While we're on the subject of phasers, anyone notice that Type I phasers got a lot less play later in the series. Like in "The Next Phase", the dialogue should have gone...

PICARD: "Transport to the Romulan ship as soon as we're within range."
(La Forge and Ro are on the transporter pads)
RIKER: "Aye, sir." (sees that Ro is packing a Type II hand phaser) "No weapons. We don't want them to think they're under attack."
RO: "This is not a bright idea."
RIKER: "I hate to say it, but you're right. We'll carry Type I's. We can conceal them, but they'll do the job if the Romulans are less grateful than we expect."
RO: "Aye, sir."

If Type I is the smaller ones, they stopped using those because they disappear in the actors' hands in 1990s low-definition tube tvs

That's fine, just mention them out loud and show them up close in the actor's hand. But just silly that we know that the Starfleet equivalent of a derringer up your sleeve exists, but they're apparently never used. I'd think Worf would probably have at least three of them in various pockets, along with that mek'leth he sticks who knows where.
