Hmm, that was more spoiler-y than I would have expected. Very interesting.

BTW top marks to whoever decided on the super obscure easter egg with that street name.

Peter Howell is still alive, he should do a few episodes. Bring back that 80's old school Who Vibe.

Interesting that Ruby's outfit seems to look similar to Ncuti's, and did they find those orange front doors especially!

Doctor Who is bought to you by the number Fifteen and the colour Orange.

I would not be averse to that option.

I demand an Oscar the Grouch cameo, thus confirming a long-held belief! ;)

I don't get the easter egg. "Minto"? I see it's a bitcoin term, A place in Alaska and a mine

I said it was obscure. It's where the restaurant Rose and Auton Mickey go to in Russell's very first episode was.

Incorrect. It's actually the location of a new pizza restaurant Jackie and Mickey discuss in Parting of the Ways. Source.

Count me as someone else who'd assumed Years and Years had been a resounding success.

    Interesting interview.

Off topic but I was surprised to read his comments about Years and Years (“it died a death”). I remember great reviews and word of mouth. My wife and I really enjoyed it. It’s a shame that he doesn’t feel it was properly appreciated.

Yes I enjoyed it and my GF (never the greatest sci-fi fan in the world) really enjoyed it also.

I was a latecomer to the series (at least a year after) but I loved every minute of it (well, I did cringe a bit at the Trump references). I'm equally disappointed that it didn't get the acclaim and recognition it dsereved.

Thanks for sharing. That was an interesting interview.

While it might've been his first official confirmation that spin-offs are the plan, he had mentioned his appreciation of how Star Trek and Star Wars had managed their empires of shows. That he had wanted to do the same in his day, but it was too early to keep it going and that the BBC just couldn't work that way.

Basically, current ST is his blueprint for going forward. And in the new interview, he talks about have 52 episodes for a year-round show, but across the various series. I remember him previously saying he'd love to just create a spin-off miniseries like the adventures of Nyssa for a short run, and then do something else. That's there's a lot of demand that the BBC just couldn't meet.

So, what he says in this interview really wasn't a surprise. It's consistent with his previous comments, but it's nice to have official confirmation. Personally, I'm guessing that he wouldn't have taken the job if spin-offs and more control weren't part of the deal. He now has the ability to create more series, giving him the variety he seems to enjoy.

Depending on path he took with the spin offs, there could be some headaches for Big Finish if something conflicts with any of their ranges.

For example if Davies wanted to do something related to the Time War there are 4 ranges from BF (Time War/War Master/ War Doctor Beings/Gallifrey War Room) that could come to a screeching halt.

I don't the 52 weeks a year should be taken literally. Disney don't do anything close to that for the Marvel and Star Wars shows. Something for adults, something for kids and the main show for everyone is more likely.

I'd throw in a series that would basically be an animated version of Big Finish too. An anthology telling stories from any point the show's history where you don't have to worry about what they actors look like now.

Have to admit I've always wanted to see a tv adaption of Spare Parts to give us a good on screen origin story for the Cybermen.

Or perhaps the BF'S Cybermen story with their take over on Earth from the govt down.

I meant more in the sense of the types of stories rather than being direct adaptations, though there's certainly a few they could consider doing. I'd thought I'd actually written that but clearly not!
