The BBC series has been good; love what was done so far. There was a teaser which didn't have much to see on Netflix and I hope to have an actual trailer. Are there members here who are fans of the series and is there anything you'd like to see in this new movie?

I have really enjoyed Luther. I wasn't too keen on the last season/series overall, but I think a good movie could do him justice again. I just want a good story.

I really loved Luther. I'd like to see how in the hell he could possibly get out of this jam without prison time. But seeing all that went down, and all that Luther did, I think that possibility is fairly slim, so I would really like to see how the writers handle it.

The last couple of series (4 & 5) I thought they dragged stories which could've been told in one or two episodes, but I was glad to see the characters back. I was stunned at the end of it and how reminiscent it was to the teaser from the pilot episode.
DSU Schenk must have some suspicion George Cornelius had something to do with the chain of events that happened. In London, do they consider a copper's sentence based on the outstanding duties they perform in the line of duty? I'm hoping that was under consideration or Schenk had it resolved or DCI Luther had time served by the beginning of the movie? Maybe. Probably not.

One of my favorite series, Idris Elba and especially Ruth Wilson are fabulous...
Yet, how the heck the guy hasn't been thrown into a dark cell by now is beyond me, but I love watching it...

I'm a huge fan of the show, even as it got more and more ridiculous and I'll watch more as long as Idris Elba is interested in doing them.

But it's going to be damn weird to watch the show with no more Alice.

I don't believe Alice is dead; the climax was so similar to what happened to Henry Madsen. It seems crazies have 9 lives in Luther; the only reason Madsen died was because of the hands of Alice. I wouldn't be surprised to see Alice wakes up from a coma somewhere in the movie.

I'll admit I was going to be skeptical about Ruth miraculously surviving, but according to this Collider article, Ruth Wilson is indeed returning. They don't say how but I wonder if she'll be a figment of Luther's imagination, haunting and mocking him as he tries to capture the serial killer.

Luther did love Alice in his own way; I am convince it was anger that triggered her to kill her parents. I don't buy what Luther mentioned in Series 5, it was meaningless and no motive. We see how betrayal or the thought of betrayal really erupts her; the sign of it was when she killed Madsen and Luther was pissed off at her and didn't want to see her again. She exploded in a blind rage that scared me. There must be some element where there's some MK Ultra programming going on with her parents where she could be at Oxford University at 13 years old. This mind bending technique had consequences and something went wrong IMO.

If it shows here, I'll definitely go see it. Otherwise, Netflix it is.

I saw it last night. The was very good, from the story and our beloved hero; the movie is a full force thriller and its intense through the very end. The question I have, how can the producers go back to TV after this???

Just watched it. I much prefer the first three seasons, four and five got up its own butt too much. I don't think I even saw all of five. Reminded me of Sherlock, bought into its own hype. Turned Luther into a superhero instead of a detective where the killers and Luther himself all were driven by love, as the theme song states.

Movie continued in the save vein as the last couple seasons. It was fine but still veered away from what I liked about the early series'. And the ending:vulcan:

So now Idris gets to play Bond afterall

Holy shit, that was intense. Once Luther was out of prison, the show never let up the sheer madness of it all. I knew Andy Serkis would make for a great psychopath, but holy shit, that guy was an extra level of horrible. While I agree with wayoung that the show has made Luther more of a superhero and leaned more into the Sherlock-type of storytelling (especially this movie), I mostly don't have an issue with those developments. The only thing I didn't enjoy was how some moments flew too close to Saw-level of sadism.

That and I really wish they committed to That Moment.

No, not Anya's apparent death. I was actually convinced for a moment that they did commit to that shock but thankfully they didn't.

But I do wish they had committed to Luther's death. I know this show has really stretched the bounds of reality with Luther's ability to survive shit, but not only surviving prolonged exposure to freezing water while not being able to breath, but then also walking around like he only been punched a bunch of times was a bit too much. And that moment with the handcuffs was a bit silly, even if expected.

So...who do we think is in the SUV? As soon as Martin said "her," my first thought leaped to Rose Teller. I always loved her character and I was always disappointed she never returned after the first season. No, her being in charge of intelligence agency now doesn't make much sense but crazier things have happened on this show.

Then I thought they wanted me to think it was Odette but that didn't make sense either.

But then "Paradise Circus" started playing and I thought "No, that doesn't make any fucking sense! I can believe Alice is actually alive but not also being in a position of power like this? No!"

But, again, this is Luther we're talking about, so who fucking knows.

I was expecting Judy Dench in the car at the end.

The movie was completely ridiculous and over the top...but as others have mentioned it was in line with the tv show in the later seasons. Luther is just completely indestructible, can be stabbed in the gut with a hunting knife then survive several minutes in freezing cold water (sure was lucky the cops had divers with them!) I'll give Neil Cross credit for this: he has a very vivid imagination when it comes to thinking up evil things for villains to do. Andy Serkis might have been the most evil of them all and hey he's a great actor so it was fun. Elba was as watchable as ever too. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't exactly call it good.

Did they change the reason why Luther was in prison? I can't remember much about the last season of the show, but I was sure he was arrested for Alice's death. But here it was because Andy Serkis exposed him as a dirty cop. Maybe he got away with Alice's death (because she's NOT REALLY DEAD!?) then got locked up again later.

As I understand it, Cross said the explanation is the kidnapping takes place before Luthers arrest at the end of season 5 and Andy Serkis' revelations and release of evidence against Luther are the reason Luther is arrested at the end of season 5.

I didn't finish that season so I dunno how well it fits as a retcon, had a lot of stuff going on then and never watched the last episode or two
