AVP is more enjoyable than it has any right to be.

It is hard to seperate Alien/Aliens and my opinion does vary depending on the timing when I'm asked.

So, is there really going to be a new Alien movie or is it vapourware again?

Doesn't seem like this is going to be big on continuity with the other films.

How about the Predator movies, how would you guys rank them?
    I'd go
    Predator
    Predators/Prey
    Predator 2

I haven't seen The Predator yet, but based on what I've heard, it'd probably be on the bottom. I haven't seen the AvPs either.

^My list would be the same with The Predator at the bottom. I love Shane Black but it's awful!

AvP movies are hard to take seriously in a listing. I will say.....I enjoyed the take on Yautja/Predator culture in the first AvP and Wolf from Requim was really bad ass.

The AvP films are a totally different thing, I don't even include them in the rankings of the main franchise.

I don't think Alien vs Predator is in the same universe as Prometheus/Covenant.

Yeah, I thought I heard somewhere that AvP has a different founder of Weyland-Yutani

In the AvP films, yes, it is. Charles Bishop Weyland, of Weyland Industries. CBW was also the template for the 'Bishop' androids (who, like CBW, were played by Henriksen).

The Prometheus films, OTOH, have Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), of Weyland Corp.

The jury's still out on that one.

Ridley Scott refused to acknowledge the existence of AvP, and did not take those films into account when making Prometheus and its ilk. Thus giving rise to two contradictory versions of 'Weyland' that I just mentioned (it's highly unlikely that Weyland Industries and Weyland Corp could exist in the same universe).

OTOH, the new Predator fillm (The Predator) does contain some elements of AvP.

So it really depends on who you believe.

I remember back when Aliens had just come out, it was said that there was an early clue that Bishop was an “artificial person” before the reveal. He and Ash, his cinematic predecessor from the first movie, both shared the same two letters in their names, “s” and “h”, which apparently stood for “synthetic human”. No idea if that theory was true or not, and subsequent synths have shot it out of the water pretty handily.

I mean, the big reason why AVP and Prometheus/Covenant can't be set in the same universe isn't even the two contradictory versions of Weyland, but that AVP is set in the (relative) present and shows the Xenomorphs having existed for a long time, while Covenant is set centuries from now and shows the creation of the Xenomorphs.

The Predator ( good action but very goofy )
    Prey.

I seriously do not understand why they even made Prey. It's an insult to the Predator to even consider hunting this primitive natives.

I think the only thing I'd say is that the position of Predators could be fluid. I don't think there's anything to suggest it couldn't have come before AVP or even after The Predator. Maybe some of the weapons used and the particular environments some of the humans came from but even then it was made just 6 years after AVP and 8 before TP, and for all we know the Predators placed the humans in suspended animation for their journey anyway.

I think the position of everything else is pretty much locked in though.
