Trek's catsuit problem with female actresses

What about Jonathan Frakes? Doesn't he already have back issues from moving furniture when he was younger, which is the reason for his leaning gait.

Really, that's just the one actor.

I never bought the lower-back reason for the other actors. They could've just cut the uniforms differently or modified the fit. Really, I think that's just the answer they gave for PR.

The real reason I think is this: The actors didn't want to have to watch every single calorie they ate. And Rick Berman, being "Ricky B" (as I call him), decided to only accommodate the male cast. A decision that I'm sure the "Dirty Old Man" Great Bird approved of.

Seems like it wasn’t just Trek women in revealing outfits-- some of the men’s costumes were even more daring/embarrassing -- Kirk’s red gym pants in “Charlie X,” Will Decker’s blue jumpsuit in TMP, the Edo guys’ bikinis in TNG “Justice,” John Doe’s white bodysuit in “Transfigurations,” Trent and Riker’s codpieces in “Angel One,” etc.

Don't forget Sisko's beach outfit in Emissary where nothing is left to the imagination!

Don't forget Nog's cadet uniform!

That said, the revealing or sexualized costumes for men were generally those thrown together at the last moment, seldom used, and only for one actor. The women's costumes more regularly featured elements that were revealing of form, if not skin. Indeed, they made the FC uniform--heavy fabrics, quilting, generally meant to hide the sagging features of the TNG cast--so tight you could see Nicole de Boers' navel.

I couldn't give a flying fuck what the costume department dug out for the women, or men in the past.
It's trivial, if a female performer didn't like the costume she could quite simply open her mouth and draw attention to the fact that she wasn't comfortable.
Blalok in particular wasn't shy of doing sexy photoshoots for magazines in her prime, so I would take any complaints about her catsuit, years after filming, with a pinch of salt.
As has been mentioned, what about Kirk's gymn attire in Charlie X?
Wasn't that a trifle sexualised?
What about the plank of wood, Decker, in TMP?
His John Thomas was clearly on display in almost every scene he was in.
That sure does look like an awful lot of words and whataboutery expended for supposedly "not giving a flying fuck".

100% agree. Back in the day, my friends and I used to wonder if Frakes, Dorn and Burton had a bet to see who could pack on the most weight.

The spandex uniforms also just didn't look as good on actual people as they did in the concept art. Particularly that obvious zipper down the chest looked goofy and made them look like Halloween costumes or pyjamas.

As far as a body-conforming suit, I thought Daniels' was interesting. Since he was from so far in the future you could imagine it was some kind of survival suit that allowed him to survive in all the strange places his duties would take him to.

I really hope no woman who depends upon you for emotional support is ever subjected to sexual harassment.

Is that where the beards came from? Trying everything possible to win

I maybe chose my words wrong, I apologise
I was trying to say that we can't have it both ways on here, there have been posts and threads in the past praising the costume design of Ware Theiss in TOS.
His costumes, most specifically for female guests were beautiful for the most part, some didn't work, but most did. The costumes were as much part of Trek as Jeffries set design.
Now in some threads we have people suggesting that women were being exploited by being fitted into these same costumes.
As for harrassing women, I've never done so, and never will.

Only Star Trek fans could find a reason to get indignant, outraged and combative with each other over fictional costume choices made 25-35 years ago.
Didn't see any challenges to single combat in this topic... pretty sure the moderators would discourage that.

I don’t know…to me it all just reads like another reason for people to be all pissy and/or high and mighty behind their keyboards. Maybe I just don’t have time for this kind of stuff anymore.
