Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Yet another Big Finish companion who's going to disappear rather than be written out, I guess!

Depends on how busy she (and BF can work around schedules) plus they often record the Doctor Who stuff long before it's released.

Given that Ruth's character with Old Sixie is a BF creation there rights issues shouldn't come into play (unlike when the BBC announced the Sarah Jane Adventures which kiboshed the Big Finish range).

She definitely has one more box set as it was announced today. And looking at the recording dates it was made after she'd shot her first TV episode(s).

This is going to trigger some people. Russell says he had to write a new opening for Episode One because Disney didn't like the first version. I think that definitively answers the "do they have any control over the content" question.

Source?

Here we go. So yes. It looks like Disney does have some type of input into how things are going now

This will be the exact same as what they did with Canada Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), when they funded Doctor Who in the first 3 series. Only that they didn't have any voice on any scripts back then.

Production Insights From Doctor Who Magazine

-Ruth Madeley's character of Shirly Anne is integral to the entire Whoniverse
-RTD approached the BBC and not the other way around, he can't talk much about what wen on in the Zoom meetings as it'd spoil what's coming
-The idea to team with a streaming partner was the BBCs'
-RTD hints he'll be writing a follow-up to The Writer's Tale eventually
-RTD and Scot Handcock are researching material for a script that's been written two years in advance
-Mille is nostalgic for Matt Smith and Vampires In Venice
-Jodie and Mandip have reached out and encouraged Mille
-The producers work with Disney Branded Televsion
-Disney didn't like how one villain was despatched in the third Tennant special, and gave notes. Russel didn't notice.
-RTD tells readers not to worry so much about the executive notes they get from Disney
-RTD likes the feedback they get from Disney, one note said episode one of Ncuti's series wasn't as fun, so RTD rewrote the opening scene, which was slightly more expensive, but more fun
-The BBC were always going to partner up with a streaming platform, RTD infers the BBC could no longer afford to make the programme on their own
-RTD says that while the budget is bigger, the budget that got widespread reported is inaccurate. They still have meetings on Monster budgets.

We knew from the last DWM (or maybe it was the one before that) that Disney was getting copies of episodes so they could give notes; were people under the impression those notes would be “10/10, perfect, wouldn’t change a thing”?

People end up treating this as some kind of binary where Disney is either powerless or all-powerful. But we’re talking about a business partnership here. There’s give and take in the same way there is in any professional collaboration.

Or you could buy your own copy.
You realize not everyone has access to the magazine, right?

Ah, see, this is why it's good to provide all of the information without commentary.

So rather than Disney mandating changes, it sounds more like they give notes and RTD decides whether to take them on board or not.
Exactly.

So that brings up another thing. Are we still in danger of something like an unfinished scene leaking with a giant "BBC property" logo in front?

Not saying it will happen. Just curious
