The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

I'd actually be shocked if there wasn't somebody at Disney working on a new Herbie project.
they'll tie it in with the MCU. Herbie was actually the soul of a enemy of Red Skull who was transmogrified into a VW type 1 by evil hydra member Dr Ferdinand Porsche. Herbie escaped and this led to the events of the the films from 1969-to-2005.

It will further turn out that Captain America was the one who discovered Herbie's origin and saved him when he went back in time at the end of his career. Having watched the events of the world around him the last 20 years, having been powerless to affect the world around him for good and only emitting greenhouse gases and being used to occasionally ferry Maggie Peyton around, Herbie reaches an existential crisis and tries suicide by driving off an embankment at high speed.

He's recognized in a junk yard as the famous racer of the events of 1969 and given a new electric motor and suspension, body rebuilt with a powerful AI system derived from the Knight Foundation because we're mixing that in too. The soul of Herbie now has to contend with his own immortality as well as his love and hate relationship with an invasive AI that both comprehends him but refuses to accept the incredible reality of his existence. Herbie than completes the Paris-Dakar, managing to stop an evil Tesla from exploding at the finish line and setting about World War 4, but sacrificing himself in the act.

The Messiah Bug will leave audiences and critics puzzled and torn, and be the movie that finally hastens the collapse of Disney.

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. Years later a new teenage boy is zapped and made smart and now goes to High School. Kurt Russell reprises his role for the pilot episode.

Or Kurt Russell as the lead but now he's completely obsolete because everyone's phones and laptops are more advanced than his 1969 technology.

The Santa Clause, Turner and Hooch, The Mighty Ducks, Willow, National Treasure, what else can Disney+ mine for a new show?
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, Sky High, Cat from Outer Space, that Darn Cat, the Absent Minded Professor, the Ugly Dauschund, Apple Dumpling Gang, Parent Trap, Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers, to name just ones I can think of right off.

Yeah, there is plenty in the Disney archive to play around with.

They'd probably love to make a Dick Tracy series, but Warren Beatty seems hellbent on holding onto the rights until he dies even though he doesn't do anything with it.

The Shadow would be a goood show. Bout to go public domain in 31 or so. Conde naste owns it.
Would be nice, set in the 30's

The last one was with Lindsay Lohan. I think it tanked pretty hard. I'd agree that one is in need of a reboot. They could even do a soft-reboot set in the future, make it a mad-max style post-apocalypse story where a mechanic discovers an abandoned wreck nearly fully covered with sand, but somehow sees the potential for the race circuit. So, he digs it up and takes it home to work on it and discovering that the car has a personaity of its own, and wants to race as much as his owner does.

I see there is a Twister sequel getting made. I'd almost rather have a reboot than a sequel without Paxton. Sure, Hunt's coming along but so much of (non-disaster) part of the film was their relationship I have problems seeing how it works with Hunt alone. Kind of like "Speed 2" went without Keannu.

No Phillip Seymour Hoffmann either for the movie. I just hope to remember to focus on the fun and not let it become a lecture on climate change.

Though it would be kind of fun though if they had a Greta Thunberg character involved and you do some comedy about how this kid who seems to be angry and super series always is actually just a teenager who wants to loosen up and have fun but people who she meets always expects her to be her public image. Soon as the cameras are off though it's like "Yahoo, lets party."

Didn’t see a topic for this, but I just saw the new trailer for That ‘90’s Show. And depending on the amount of time the original cast is used, I can totally see them overshadowing the new kid cast, who I found to not be funny at all.

Yeah I think the new kids are not going to be interesting. This is going to be all about the old cast. Which maybe they should have done anyways. Who says you need to keep the old formula. Just do an new show about Red and Kitty enjoying their retirement years and sometimes the old kids come in and out of the show.

I'd be interested in it just to see how they depict the '90s. How many times am I going to go, "it wasn't like that."

Oh, I'm sure you'll be doing that a lot. But I'm more interested in the characters than the setting. The problem is that these kids (and they are kids, not adults portraying kids like the original) are simply not funny, based on what I've seen.

To be fair, we haven't seen a lot. But, yeah, if in the end the characters don't click I won't *keep* watching. Though, Red and Kitty may make it work.

If they act like real 90's kids the show would likely be torn to shreds for being to offensive. The closest thing I have seen to something modern really nailing that time period would be the movie "Mid90s."
