The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Jeff Healey added so much to the movie's atmosphere. And he's a musician who constantly gets constantly forgotten when it comes to some best guitarists. Had such a unique way of playing, as he had to teach himself a method of playing while sitting down, which meant he was able to create sounds other guitarists wouldn't be able to easily create.

It's too bad the Road House remake with Ronda Rousey fell through. I don't really think they can capture that lightning in a bottle that was the first, I can't say it's a good movie but it's a cult classic, one of those "if you know, you know" deals. I don't think a new remake can replace what the late 80s could instill for free.

If I was doing Roadhouse I would embrace the silly concept and just go for comedy. Will Ferrell as the Bouncer. The movie is still set in the 80's.

Yeah, at least with her, it would have been a little more unique than this proposed version. It seems they kept the MMA angle though. I think the movie will need to have a killer soundtrack in order for it to stand out though.

A "consortium of stakeholders and producers" wants to remake Easy Rider. I think that right there should tell you what the intent is.

Ever heard of a movie called Easy Rider: The Ride Back? It's a prequel from a really bad director/director/producer (who seems to be making Hallmark movies now) who secured the rights to the title. I think the remake will head down the same path.

There’s a 90s film called Flashback, in which Hopper plays a 60s radical/fugitive, who is arrested by Keifer Sutherland’s FBI man, who is trying to make out that he’s not as uptight as he seems. In one exchange, Hopper says “It takes more than going down to your local video store and renting Easy Rider to become a rebel.” To which Sutherland replies along the lines of “Hey I OWN a copy of Easy Rider!” Can’t help but be reminded of that scene.

The Easy Rider remake is one that really confuses me, the whole movie was so focused on what was going on the '70s, that I just don't see how redoing today is going to going to work anywhere near as well.

It won't work. They must be just using the brand name to make something completely different. Might not even involve motorcycles.

That could work. It also has Emily Blunt. But I do wonder. Didn't he already kind of do this movie in "Drive?"

Maybe they drive around in electric cars and glamp.

Not a reboot or remake, but Election is actually getting a sequel 20+ years later. Only it's going straight to Paramount+.

YES!! I am really looking forward to this. I want to see what Tracey Flick is up to and Mr McAllister.

The Santa Clause, Turner and Hooch, The Mighty Ducks, Willow, National Treasure, what else can Disney+ mine for a new show?

How about Armageddon? But make it an episodic procedural where Ben Affleck takes on a different asteroid every week. An asteroid made of cheese. An asteroid whose parents didn't hug it enough. An asteroid that's actually a comet pretending to be an asteroid. An asteroid from the future.

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. Years later a new teenage boy is zapped and made smart and now goes to High School. Kurt Russell reprises his role for the pilot episode.

The answer is “Witch Mountain “.
