The lite episodes were a necessity because there simply wasn’t time for the Doctor and companion to have major roles in all 14 episodes of a production season; they were making other episodes at the same time those were being filmed (so not a break per se). Even granting that episodes take longer now, I don’t think 9 episodes a production season would warrant it. Maybe if they up the count in future years.

I personally always liked the lite episodes as it was generally interesting to see the DW universe from a different perspective. And of course Blink is one of the finest ever DW episodes (hell, it’s simply an outstanding piece of entertainment in its own right)

You're forgetting Doctor Who Confidential.

13 + 13 + 10 + 13 = 49 episodes per year, even though that set of numbers never really happened, and when it was close, a lot of the episodes happened during the same week.

I loved watching the BTS stuff, although they had to drop it to a ten minute special instead of 40 minutes sometime during the Smith/Capaldi era.
Watching a life size David Tennant doll being bumped down the stairs in an office chair was amazing to watch.

I suspect any "Doctor Lite" episodes now will probably be more like The Long Game as opposed to Love and Monster or Blink or whatever. In The Long Game, Adam was brought in mostly to the episode could follow someone else to give Eccleston and Piper a lighter workload, though the Doctor and Rose were still very much central to the episode. Which I imagine even at nine episodes RTD might feel inclined to do one episode where Gatwa and Gibson can have a bit of a breather.

The Doctor Lite episodes done in the Tennant years where the Doctor and companion are only present for one scene while the episode focuses on guest stars were a necessity because with Christmas specials they had to film fourteen episodes in the timespan that was allotted for thirteen, the Doctor Lite episodes were typically filmed simultaneously with another episode. Which hopefully won't be a factor this time.

Then again, The Book of Boba Fett was only seven episodes and went two whole episodes where Boba Fett was only in one scene.

Myles is joining Big Finish’s Torchwood “series 7” as a regular after being only minimally involved in the prior series, so depending on exactly what she said it’s possible she was referring to that.

Made the mistake of falling down the Twitter rabbit hole on this one and let's just say that Barrowman's fans are not the nicest people. (They all seem to be big fans of Noel Clarke as well.) And Barrowman himself seems to have made friends with some right-wing podcasters/YouTubers; the sort of people who under other circumstances would have nothing to do with him.

Oh, and it turns out that when they were both on "Arrow" he made fake nude photos of Alex Kingston and passed them round to people. Another example of his "humour" I guess. (And straight up a criminal offense in some countries.)
