Spoilers ST Prodigy - StarShips & Technology Season 1 Discussion

I don't think there's a time limit on how long you can wear those suits considering how these things probably have built in life support systems and other technological goodies to extend the usability of the suits in question.
I'm not talking about how long you can wear the suit, I'm talking about using it's Anti-Grav "Flight Mode".

That has to take energy to negate the effect of a Planet's Gravity or Grav Plating on your body.

That's raw physics and we can easily calculate the minimum amount of force that needs to be negated based on your body mass just to float, how much more energy is needed on top of floating would be the energy needed to propel you around.

Can you fit inertial dampeners in a suit? Have we seen that in a canon show/movie?
That'll probably cost extra energy as well, there is no free lunch in physics.

I good way to show such a suit working might be to, say, have a cannonball hit a figure—and a ghost image/afterimage of the person pulses a few frames behind as the cannonball hits—-moves forward to reattach itself—-and the moment the two images are one again the cannonball just drops…

Wow, lots to unpack in 1x16! Let's start:

- This is the episode of upside-down starships! In the Diviner / Vindicator flashback, "first contact" was apparently performed by a Prometheus-class starship's... Dorsal side. Later on, when the "Protostar" comes to their planet, you get a great bottoms-up view of that same Prometheus again and not the Protostar herself. And finally, Jankom Pog's sleeper ship was proudly displaying its navigational deflector on the topside instead of tucked under its chin when we saw it in ENT et al. The last one MAY have an out because... Space, but it does bear bringing up!

- Hey, it's the Medusan starship from the TOS-R version of "Is There In Truth No Beauty?"! But how did the Kazon clone club get ahold of the TOS visors and so on to capture Zero - did they sneak on board earlier to grab some, plus the containment vessel?

- The Protostar's fancy warp core is physically moved up a deck to be repaired up close, and then lowered into its much more dramatic position for actual use. This is pretty cool, and I wonder how other similarly inaccessible warp cores are accessed when a dilithium armature needs to be tweaked or something. I'm looking at you, Sovereign-class.

- I didn't bring it up last week, but Admiral Janeway's office is also her quarters - no ready room here. At least she has a rather large model of Voyager to spruce up the joint.

- The Protostar's fleshy crew still consists of two people we've seen: Chakotay, and an unnamed avian crew we also saw facing away from us at the Protostar's launch ceremony. Probably NOT a wingless Aurelian..?

- The Dauntless must not have lockable doors, because I can't imagine anyone spouting off THAT much exposition in secret without locking theirs.

The Supernova game revealed revealed the Vau N’Akat ships as Rev ships. Seeing their fleet here, the designations Rev-12 and Rev-13 make sense.

Jankom called the Tellarite ship pre-Federation. Does that mean it launched before the 2160s?

The ship must be at least that old, and to my untrained eye, it looks like the type used on ‘ST: Enterprise”. I initially speculated on one of these forums that an old sleeper ship might be how you could find a Tellarite so far from home, but when we learned Jankom didn’t even know he WAS a Tellarite it seemed less likely. Now I’m more baffled than ever!

Jankom Pog, now identifying to his crew as an orphan from Pre-Federation Tellar Prime, (but didn’t he only recently learn those names?) tells the tale of an engineering trainee awakened looking exactly as he does now by Miner Transport Emergency Assistant “Boxy” which apparently has some kind of name identifier chip loose. Did Pog have cryo-pod amnesia about his people’s name and homeworld but not his own name, his language, or his engineering training? Was he raised on that ship exclusively by that dodgy robot? How did he lose his hand and parents? How briefly was he on Tars Lamora?

Why are kid-catching Kazon all over the place and why are they The Diviner’s primary labour supplier? And why do the Kazon only take Pog and leave 29 defenseless, out of touch Tellarite MINERS behind if they’re providing a rich madman with mine workers?

There’s a compelling backstory here explaining why Jankom Pog is always saying his full name like his life depended on it.

Jankom Pog referring to himself in the third person dovetails nicely with stereotypical Tellarite stubbornness, really... He got it drilled into himself thanks to Boxy and now just sticks to it out of habit. We also learned two weeks back that "Pog" is in reference to his smaller stature, and true to form the sleeping Tellarites in the ship seem similarly full sized and tusked.

Also, pre-Federation Tellaraite plungers look just like Earth plungers! I guess if the poop clogs, only one shape of rubber tool will do regardless of the source.

Memory Alpha (citing the credits) calls Chakotay’s XO Adreek-Hu an Aurelian, and his lack of wings has twitter atwitter with the notion that Counselor Migleemo and his Meemaw are also Aurelian.

I was under the impression that Jankom referes to himself in the third person mainly because he is young and has a 'limited vocabulary' as Dr. Noum told him in their brief encounter at the depot planet (which was more of an insult). Pog is another nickname Tellarites give to youngsters as Dr. Noum said too.

can't think of a show reference, but the novels include inertial dampeners and structural integrity fields in 'exotic environment' space suits, for when operating in higher gravity and pressures for example. in TOS novels like the vanguard series, it's something that had to be adapted to a standard space suit, but by TNG novels it seems to be a common plug-in option.

- Janeway’ s interstitial logs suggest that the Kazon (and likely others) have taken advantage of the Borg’s transwarp network to expand across the quadrant, in the wake of Voyager’s final adventures in the Delta.

- A producer further answers my earlier question by inferring these Amazon knew about the anti-Medusa’s tech from logs plundered from Voyager herself, specifically as a result of Seska’s shenanigans. I guess the Kazon have upped their game somewhat in the last decade-plus!

It SEEMS like the Protostar crew is just 2 people indeed... or at least, we only saw Chakotay and his avian officer thus far.
I would have thought that he would have at least 20 to 30 people onboard with some trainee cadets and ensigns to boot.

But the Protostar does seem to be predomiantly automated, so that could explain only 2 people onboard - but it still doesn't make much sense in case you have an emergency and automation systems are knocked out.
Maybe he had more crew onboard, just they weren't shown?

- The Dauntless must not have lockable doors, because I can't imagine anyone spouting off THAT much exposition in secret without locking theirs.

We've seen that starship crews can lock their doors with a simple command to the computer or via manual input. My guess is that Ascensia/Vindicator was in a bit of a rush given her statement that they were running out of time, and it ended up slipping her mind (though for someone in her position, doing this kind of exposition to the Diviner in secret would have been important - or she just deemed it unnecessary because she had Dreadnok with her and just figured it was time to blow her cover anyway?).

If the Protostar was just 2 crew why was their a crew room with bunkbeds? Was it 2 officers and a bunch of anonymous lower decks crew?

Admiral Janeway's instagram log talks about Protostar as something of a second contact mission- "returning to rectify" their mistakes in the Delta Quadrant (bit of a misquote, but something quite similar). Maybe the Protostar is equipped with a load of extra bunks for limited evacuations, rescue missions?

There's also a gold-shirt visible talking to the XO in Janeway's flashback to the launch, and she's seen unconscious on the bridge when the ship is captured. Oddly, she's wearing the standard LDS-style uniform that the Dauntless crew wears instead of the black Protostar uniform.

Screencaps.

I’d assume in addition to the captain and first officer, the Protostar would require engineering, science and medical officers, and with the experimental nature of the drive maybe a couple of the foremost, plus at least a half-dozen crew.
