Spoilers ST Prodigy - StarShips & Technology Season 1 Discussion

I would class 'fighter craft' as vessels that are the size of a Shuttle and Runabouts (Delta Flyer included).
Name one IRL Fighter craft that has internal room for you to go into the back and take a nap or a take a bathroom break / shower?

The only thing remotely close to that is the B-2 / B-1, those are "Tactical Bombers", not "Fighters".

You can't be wasting Volume / Mass for those amenities.

Once you reach the size of that 30 year old Starfleet design which the Maqui used as a raider along with Raven class (7's parents), those and anything above would likely fall into full blown starship category (or basically, anything that has 2 decks perhaps?).
Maqui used old courier ships because those were easily available for them to get ahold of and retro-fit.
Not because they were purpose built.
What the Maqui's did was basically the 24th century equivalent of Al Qaeda strapping Machine Guns to a Toyota Hilux.

And "The Raven" would be about the size of a small warehouse that flies, it's not a small craft at that point, but it's not quite normal StarShip size either.

It's in that weird "Mega Yacht" size that is in between a Shuttle and full blown StarShip.

Well, they could both be called "fighters" though P meant pursuit...
Naming conventions wasn't what I was referencing.

They were both either Single-Seat / Dual-"Tandem seat" combat aircraft with only what was necessary to fly to the target zone, do it's job, and go home.

No room for other luxuries, no room to physically move once you're strapped in.

This isn't a larger vessel like the Millenium Falcon where you can live on it and have individual rooms for various purproses.

These are purpose built combat vessels that return to a "Mother Ship" or "Carrier" or "Air/Star Base".

You only make these craft as large as necessary to do it's job, survive, and go home.

Nothing More, Nothing Less.

Min / Max all design parameters to cover those Mission / Doctrinal requirements.

If you were "Han Solo" or "Cristobol Rios" or "Booker Cleveland" and lived on your ship, did your business with your ship, made a living with it.

I can see the argument for a larger vessel in the "Millenium Falcon" / "La Sirena" / "Book's Ship" size range.

But short of being a independent business / contractor / handsome space rogue entrepreneur.

A fighter should be "Purpose Built", otherwise, we're discussing different types of craft with very different purposes.

Closest starflghter type I've seen that can be lived in are basically patrol craft that can sort of fly like a fighter. EC Henry's B-Wing Mark II and Resistance Y-wing
But "Patrol Craft" are an actual seperate category compared to a "Fighter" / "Attacker" / "Bomber".

They are generally larger and IRL, specialize in sub hunting.

The P-3 Orion is one of the most famous examples, that is the older model that is being phased out for the P-8 Poseidon.
