    I stand corrected.

    I hate Star Wars sometimes.

You could do what I do and rotate between services. I have two or three I always subscribe to and then another 3 or 4 where I subscribe to one for a few months, and then cancel it and switch to another, and do that for third and then a fourth, and then go back to the first. Most of them are pretty easy to cancel and then sign back up, and as long as you don't wait to long, they'll save all your information so all you have to do is tell it to reactivate your account.

We still don't really have the story were where the X-wings come from. They basically don't get seen until suddenly they do. Saw's group I think is the first we see with them. Green Squadron has some later in Rebels, though we see what look like X-wing kill marks on an ace pilot's TIE Fighter during Rebels.

Okay, now I'm REALLY confused.

Saw and his men predate the Rebel Alliance?

How does that jibe with Mon Mothma's comment about "he's been on his own since he broke with the Rebellion"?

The Alliance started out as a number of rebellious cells that formed in to a coalition. The Partisans were one group that was folded in, but Saw had been active prior to that formation of the Alliance.

I would think Mon would count a connection with Luthan as being part of the Rebellion, even though that predates the formal Alliance to Restore the Republic, which is more of a shadow government in Rebellion against the Emperor. Even by the end of the first year of the Empire, Bail Organa has the founding of a Rebellion. It would make sense if Mon Mothma and Bail Organa were organizing and funding a wide net of rebellious groups, and Luthan was loosely organizing them. But by the time of Rogue One, Saw was kicked out of the Rebel Alliance for extremism. He still fights the Empire, but is no longer directly aided by those in support of Mon Mothma's shadow government.

By definition an alliance is formed by the unification of smaller groups and factions working in common cause. So obviously the Alliance would have to be predated by smaller localized cells.

(And before anyone cries "retcon!" this was the explicit intent for how the Alliance was portrayed in RotJ. That's why suddenly there's Mon Cala everywhere, why the Endor briefing includes Dressellian fighters, Sullustan pilots, ishi tib, and yes; even Chandrilans plural. It was meant to show the rebellion coming together as one united force from all across the galaxy.)

In the case of Saw: he basically never stopped fighting from the Clone Wars onwards. As for Mothma's comment in RO about Saw splitting; while we haven't seen what specifically caused the rift beyond what is said there about his militancy causing they a number of problems, one can still infer just from that that he had at least cooperated with the Alliance for a while. Indeed we saw him doing just that on more than one occasion in 'Rebels', but it was always on his terms and often fraught.

I apparently never noticed the Ishi Tib, but what other Chandrilans are in that room?

In The Bad Batch, we see....
...Saw and his partisans being branded as insurgents way back at the beginning of the Empire, and preparing to start a fight against the Empire at that time. So yes, he was active against the Empire for years until the Alliance was formally declared by Mon Mothma (as depicted in Rebels). But then Mon Mothma found his methods too extreme, or however it was expressed in Rogue One. So he was on his own again.

When Lyra pulls the blaster on Krennic and his men, there's smoke coming from somewhere in the background. What is making the smoke?

Krennic's troops haven't yet reached the Erso home, so they haven't had the opportunity to set fire to it. (Later on, after the troops have finished searching the house, it's in flames, so I can only assume they were responsible.)

Looks like they are basically home fires to keep the dwellings warm.

It looked like a bigger fire than that.

When Lyra comes running up to Krennic, waving the blaster, there's a HUGE pall of smoke coming from behind her. That looked like much more than a simple fireplace...

and as I said, Krennic's men haven't yet reached the home at that time, so it couldn't be from when they burned it down (as I assume they eventually did).

You see similar smoke coming up from another dwelling. Could also be a forge.

I didn't know there WERE any other dwellings in the area. I thought the Ersos lived alone.

Which actually brings to mind another question...exactly where was Jyn running from, when we first see her? I mean, obviously she had seen Krennic's shuttle and was fleeing from it, but what was she doing out there in the first place?

Have you checked to see if maybe there was a deleted scene that could explain it? You see this kind of thing a lot when something is cut, and they overlook or don't care about a connection to it in a later scene.
I read the novelization a while ago, but I can't remember if there was anything added to the opening scene.
