Rogue One questions

Hi, it's me again!

This time it's about that crashed X-Wing in the middle of Jedha City. Assuming it belonged to Saw's men (judging by its "black & white" markings), it sorta begs the question - how did it get there? How did Saw's men even get ahold of an X-Wing in the first place, and why would they be flying it around inside the city? There is smoke rising from the wreckage, so it seems to be fairly recently crashed...

did the set dressers just think it would be cool to have a crashed X-Wing just sitting there, and didn't give it much thought? ;)

I really don't recall a crashed X-Wing! When/where? I might have to rewatch Rogue One tonight

Apparently this stuff happened, but you wouldn't glean most of that from watching the film.

The scene where Jyn and Cassian are captured by stormtroopers and rescued by Chirrut and Baze. It's never focused on, always in the background, you pretty much have to know it's there to notice it.

I'm pretty sure I also saw another X-Wing parked outside Saw's headquarters while his men are evacuating (right after Saw says "Save the rebellion...save the dream").

They've had them, as Rebels and Andor demonstrated.

I'm sorry, I've never seen either of those series.

Ok, well the Partisans were an extremist group as part of the Rebel Alliance, and so had received X-Wings and U-Wings as part of the fight against the Empire. However, the Partisans tended to be very judicious in their use of force, and didn't care about civilian casualties as long as they attacked the Empire.

Don't you mean injudicious?

That doesn't quite track given . . .
Saw already has a squadron of his Cavern Angels two or three years before the Alliance was even formed.
While they haven't said exactly how Saw got them; there's basically two possibilities: 1) he stole them from Incom's mothball yards. 2) he used some of the cash from the Kessel heist (yes, he's the one Enfys Nest gave the coaxium to) to buy them off the black market.
Either way, it's reasonably to presume that he's the reason the Alliance got X-Wings, not the other way around. Indeed they didn't show up in Rebels until very late on. Like, literally a few months prior to the events of Rogue One. At the top of season 4, the massassi group seemed to be still mostly flying Y-Wings.
