Contest: ENTER November Art Challenge - "Toy Trek"

MisterD

Commander
Red Shirt
Welcome to the 208th Fan Art Forum challenge! This November the theme is Toy Trek:

We've seen Marauder Mo, we've seen Toby the Targ, we've seen Flotter...what other kinds of children's toys and characters might exist in the worlds of the Trek galaxy? The Federation's certainly full of room for creativity, but there's a whole galaxy out there, and you never get that sense more than when you're a kid...

The Rules
  • the artwork you submit should be created during the month of the challenge
  • only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple views)
  • your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are appreciated)
The winner gets to sport the “Art Challenge Winner” banner below their name for the following month and has the honor of hosting December's challenge. Be sure to help decide what the theme for next month's contest will be here.

You have until Wednesday, November 30st to post your final entry in this thread. If you have any questions or if you need more time, just let us know in this thread. :)

Good luck and have fun! I'm looking forward to your ideas!

I'm going to have to get myself lost in screencap websites in the hope of being inspired by something, as I haven't got even the slightest inkling of an idea at the moment. All I can think of is Molly O'Brien's adorable Piggy :adore:
(I was hoping that 'Transporter Malfunctions' would win :D)

Good luck everyone!

Thinking about children's TV and advertising might help too.

There's always the possibility of playing to cultural stereotypes: a Ferengi's first calculator? Just how lethal are Klingon children's toys? :klingon:

Toy companies: are Build-A-Bear, Nerf, etc still going strong in the 24th Century?

Ooh, Captain Proton action figures?

If anyone else has any spare ideas, post them here. There's always room for more inspiration. :)

Oh, thank you @Starscape - You have inspired me! (I prefer the clink of wine glasses or gin tumblers, but beer serves the purpose ;))

Just after I commented yesterday, I had an idea for a Trek board game, but it's been niggling me because it's a game not a toy. Then, while I was in the bath just now (I tend to have all my ideas while in the bath), I remembered your reply and thought back to the toys that me and my sisters played with when we were young (and that my nieces and nephew play with now): Lego and My Little Ponies! I'm sure both of them will be going strong in the 23rd & 24th centuries.

I can't think what to do with/for Lego, but I have got an MLP idea...

Special version of a Paddle Ball game sold during the last phase of the Dominion War in Quarks bar on Deep Space Nine.

Inspired by a conversation wich involved Dr. Bashir, Chief O'Brien and Commander Worf, (who were definately not making fun of Quark!) more then 300 units of this toy were sold before Odo shut the buisness down (allegedly because the toy counted as a stabbing weapon...but we all know it was out of spite.). Although Klingons were the target group, the toy proved very popular with all demographics.

Alongside balls with Quarks face on them, there were also versions with Cardassian, Jem'Hadar, Vorta and Breen motives. (But due to his standing with his customers, the Quark edition sold more then all the others together.)

(with extra bloom for the DS9 look...)

Oh, wow, these are all amazing! [not 'EEK!', but eye-popping] :bolian:
Klingon Meccano, stabby Paddle Ball, LINK Compound... so that's why Toy Trek was such a popular theme :D

Does the entry have to be “in universe”? I’ve had an idea for awhile, but while a Trek toy, it’s not really “in universe”. As with a lot of my Trek stuff, it’s another “in this universe Star Trek wasn’t a show, but________”

In this case, toys.

Since I am the host...I guess I'll allow it . As long as the other participants and @Michael are ok with it.

(In the end we can declare almost everything "in universe" with the holo deck or the benny russel-loop hole.)

It would definitely work in the Benny Russell world since it’s pretty close to this one.

Now this is brilliant! Had to chuckle when I saw this. Clever idea!

Agreeing with everyone else saying that this is absolutely fine by me. :) The more the merrier. ;)

I have a great idea, but I doubt I'd be able to execute it, so here it is - Acquistion - The Strategy Game!

"You already know the rules. Now, play the game."

Based on the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition. Decks include "Rules", "Business Opportunities", "Unforeseen Events" (things like "Raw material shortage", "Boycott", "Shipment delay", "Government upheaval", etc).

Tokens include latinum chips (not real latinum anymore - we've had too many players steal game pieces in the past), and Profit-ears (profiteers) - characters you can play.

I see myself confirmed in the assumption that I should never decide what theme is next in the challenge. When I first read "toy trek" I wanted to avoid it so badly because I had no Idea what to do with it. Turns out "toy trek" was a great idea...
