Eh? It came out the year after Trek XI was released in theatres, so even if TV Trek's status at the time looked bleak, we knew Trek had a future in the movies. To be fair to STO, it came along at a time when it honestly looked like Trek on TV/in movies was dead forever.
I wish the Section 31 ship recently glimpsed in Lower Decks 3.08 had a black hull hue to thematically match the Vengeance and NCIA-93, heh.Yeah, when I saw the Shenzhou set, my first thought was they'd based it heavily of the Kelvin. I just miss those random-ass antennae and cables the Kelvin bridge had everywhere. And crewman wearing headsets with mics (and all the cool augmentations we saw on early Discovery season 1 crewpersons, there were people wired into their consoles!)
EDIT: Also there's an interview somewhere where they openly say the Section 31 ships were based on the Vengeance from Into Darkness (not that there could be any doubt)
It looked dark to me. Not as a dark as Discovery's S31 ships, but it was dark, it also had blue bussards like the DSC ships.I wish the Section 31 ship recently glimpsed in Lower Decks 3.08 had a black hull hue to thematically match the Vengeance and NCIA-93, heh.
But not in the original universe (I won't reignite the Prime/canon debate). At the time, that universe was considered closed for business in TV/film.Eh? Yep, the Monitor, which was code-named "Enterprise" for the climax of the novel, since there wasn't a real one available.Wasn't there a black Defiant class ship in one of the Shatner novels? The Return maybe?
Then you should have specified as much in your prior post. But not in the original universe

Damn...They offhand-referenced a current Enterprise in Disco S4, so... long way to go.
They did? I haven't seen S4 yet...what was the reference?
The reference to the Enterprise is definitely there, in....
...the episode "Stormy Weather."
Saru says, "Enterprise noted heated plasma. Voyager charted ionized particles."
