News Planet of the Apes (spoilers)

Yeah, I loved the last trilogy and I'm curious to see what they do next. I think a big time jump is the right call.

They are starting to evolve into humans again. Monkeys vs the dawn of the second caveman era.

I'm interested to see where the series goes from War, based on what I've read Caesar's son Cornelius will be the main character.

The previous trilogy is something I really love, I hope the new movie can come even close. If it's only as good as Rise, I'll be happy.

This thread has reminded me that though I really enjoyed the first two films, I've never actually seen the third!!

So they haven't yet reached the point of remaking the original?

I can only assume that they ultimately intend to do so, if for no other reason than the Icarus did make a cameo appearance in "Rise"...

Not necessarily. It was one of many Easter eggs to the original film. Sure, they included it as a possibility for the future but that doesn't mean they directly intended to remake the film.

And remember, the creative teams have changed a couple of times since Rise.

I personally hope they don't bother. There's so many more stories to tell instead of just remaking an already great film.

I wonder if they'll ever go so far as to include a member of the family called Galen.

Well, arguably they've already loosely remade Conquest of... and Battle For the Planet of the Apes. But I agree that remaking the original is unnecessary. I mean, it wouldn't be the same, since we already know all about the origins of the ape civilization, so there wouldn't be the same sense of identification with the humans arriving on a seemingly alien world and being shocked by what they find.

Though maybe there could be a way to tell that story from the other side. After all, the reboot trilogy basically ended up shifting our sympathies from the humans to the apes, identifying with Caesar's people as the protagonists. So it might be interesting to see an inverted version where we're essentially on Dr. Zaius's side, as it were. Sort of like Doctor Who's Silurian/Sea Devil stories where the former masters of the Earth return and assume they're entitled to reclaim it.

Per the concept art released with the announcement, enough time will have passed since the last film that city skyscrapers have become completely overgrown with vegetation. It's conceivable that it won't be long before the apes have forgotten there are buildings underneath all that green, or who had built them.

Well, realistically, despite how post-apocalyptic fiction tends to portray it, abandoned skyscrapers would probably crumble away entirely within a couple of centuries at most. They might last longer in an arid environment, but if they're overgrown by vegetation, then they're in a wet enough climate to rust the steel and dissolve the concrete, and the plants will only hasten the crumbling.

This means, of course, that you're not going to have a half-buried Statue of Liberty surviving for 2000 years on a coastline so Taylor can get his shock ending. It would've been completely gone long before then.

When are they going to send the monkeys to space. I want to see the far future where the monkeys have evolved so much they have developed advanced tech.
