He transferred to a Battlestar in the 80s.

    I agree with the OP.
The actor in question, in my view, bares no physicial resemblance to real Captain Kirk i.e. William Shatner.

Why should he look like Shatner? He’s not playing Shatner, he’s playing the 100% fictional Captain Kirk.

Indeed. If you cannot separate actor from character then no one should be recast.

The James Bond films would have died in 1969.

    Wesley is Kirk, now.

    Goodbye, again.

Captain Kirk character was played and embodied by William Shatner. Physical appearance of the character is associated with Shatner's look (when he was young, of course).

Well, and later on, when he wasn't.

Partially, one assumes, the reason for using archival footage in "Trials and Tribble-ations" instead of recasting.

Recasting is a fact of life. Kirk is no exception.

Again. We've had Bond recast five separate times in just one continuity and Jack Ryan several times over multiple continuities. And one of those recasts was with Chris Pine.

The fact that Pine and Wesley have as much similarity as they do to thirtysomething Shatner ought to be applauded. Because it could have been a Sean Connery-to-Roger Moore situation.

I don't see Darth Vader getting any voice other that James Earl Jones' (real, or AI) any time in the foreseeable future...

Actually, the writers, Robert Hewitt Wolfe, wanted to do a Forest Gump style episode. It probably would have been cheaper for them to have simply recast, as Trials and Tribble-ations was the most expensive regular episode of an hour long series up to that time.

It already happened decades ago in another medium.
Brock (Admiral Cartwright/Joseph Sisko) Peters voiced Darth Vader in the three NPR radio adaptations of the original trilogy.

They'll replace Jones when he passes. How many Fred Flintstones and Bugs Bunnys have there been?

Hell, on Squidbillies there were two different Sheriffs with similar yet different voices. Charles Napier for Seasons 1 and 2 and, following his death, voice actor Charles Ellerbee for the remainder of the series' run.

I was happy with his version and honestly it’s a different timeline version so any personality differences are explained by that.
