I'm very surprised we didn't get an announcement for Section 31 or any other new show yesterday.
We have been promised an announcement "soon" for years now. With Picard now out of production a new show should be in production at this very moment if they want to keep up with 50 Star Trek episodes each year.
My guess is that the idea was to spotlight the shows immediately on the horizon - the focus was on Prodigy, returning in October, Picard, back in February, and some SNW, which has already finished filming season two. Nothing really mentioned about Discovery, which is the current flagship series, and is nearing the end of their principle filming for season five right now, without even enough ready to go as a trailer (and, presumably, no airdate until probably fall 2023), anything after that is in no condition to announce - all there could have been at this point is a title of the series with probably some snippets of recycled dialogue looped in. That, ultimately, there was nothing TO advertise at this point that we don’t already know, of Georgiou leading and Section 31 being the focus. It’s not really much to announce, especially if it’s not likely to air for close to a year and a half, which, based on the schedule we know, is about the minimum amount of time just to work through the episodes they’ve got.
My guessat the moment is that we might start hearing about it in the first half of next year, and giving an official cast introduction at any of 2023’s summer events, probably with an expected launch date somewhere in 2024.
Because as I’ve said before, with how in demand Michelle Yeoh is these days, Paramount would surely want to have a series led by her, and she has seemed eager to return to Trek. So I’m no less that 75% sure it WILL happen, it’s just when.
