Section 31: I hope it still happens.

I believe Akiva said 2 new shows in the oven. And there will be more female leads. I'd say the candidates are:

1) Michelle in S31 show.
2) Jeri Ryan in Seven show.
3) Tilly in Academy show.
4) Something new.
1 and 3 would be my bets, but with Michelle Yeoh doing a Netflix series now S31 might have fallen by the wayside. I can see a Seven/Raffi 25th century show recycling those Picard ship sets being a thing. I recall "Star Trek Republic" being trademarked awhile ago.

I hope the Section 31 show never gets made. It was a dumb idea in my opinion. And honestly, while Tilly in the Academy show is not as bad an idea, I'm kind of bored with the 32nd century. Unlike other people, Jeri Ryan doesn't really appeal to me. I think it's high time to make a new show that doesn't need to ride the coattails of another. I would love to see a show that takes place on the Enterprise-B or C during the Lost Years. There's literally 70-some years between the end of TUC and the start of TNG that's completely undocumented and a goldmine for storytelling without letting 'canon' get in the way.

I always saw it as a bit of a desperate idea from a time when they had little to spin off with.

The amount of yearly Trek we have now is an embarrassment of riches compared to what we had circa DSC Season 2, which is when I think this started to be talked about?

I love Michelle Yeoh though, so I'd watch it.

A Seven show would be welcome.

I really hope Section 31 happens, be it as a series, mini series or a movie. Emperor Georgiou just started becoming interesting, and together with Tyler there's already two compelling characters. So it would probably take place mid 23rd century, making crossovers with SNW possible. Star Trek just needs to keep diversifying and expanding and exploring the ways Trek stories in the Trek universe can be told. S31 would be a bold move in that direction.

And regarding the two new series Kurtzman confirmed... if S31 does get to be a movie, then my bet is on:

- A follow-up or spin-off to PIC, possibly featuring Seven, but most certainly the Enterprise F, early 25th century
- Starfleet Academy, featuring Tilly and probably other DSC characters, 32nd century

Also, some have stated concerns about there being two series concurrently featuring a starship Enterprise, but SNW isn't overly associated with the Enterprise, for me at least - it is very much a Pike series (with strong supporting characters).

Similarly, I don't see real issues in expanding all three eras - 23rd, 25th, 32nd centuries - simultaneously. I mean, it does work very well now, doesn't it? And hey, I almost forgot that we technically have four eras: LDS and PRO are set in the late 24th century!

As for Michelle Yeah both the series that she's in have wrapped principal photography for their seasons and are in post-production.

It's not like actors can only do one thing at a time. (depending on how a given contract is written) I'm sure if they can work out the scheduling and she's still game, they'd make the Section 31 series.

I'm wondering if that's the name of Seven's new ship (?) or if it's alluding to the Borg cooperative? (A "republic" in the making.)

Especially now that we're in the streaming era, where the seasons only run anywhere from eight to thirteen episodes per season, depending on the platform. Depending on the size of an actor's role in practice, they could be in and out of their principal shooting schedule within a week or so - just cuz an actor gets high billing, that doesn't mean that they're appearing in every episode, and they would still get a "starring" credit.

But especially with how Michelle Yeoh is so in demand as a performer right now, I find it hard to believe that Paramount WOULDN'T make every effort to have her in a leading role, give her a series featuring her as the lead right now. Especially since I got the impression that Michelle Yeoh really wants to come back and play Emperor Georgiou again.

So to me, the 31 series is pretty firmly in the "when," not "if" category. It just hasn't gotten dates firmly locked in.

I'm very surprised we didn't get an announcement for Section 31 or any other new show yesterday.

We have been promised an announcement "soon" for years now. With Picard now out of production a new show should be in production at this very moment if they want to keep up with 50 Star Trek episodes each year.

Yep - as far a surprise announcements go - IMO nothing special (even though I like Carol Kane and all). Hell, they didn't even announce SNW was renewed for a third season, although I would think such a thing is pretty much a lock at this point.

During the Picard panel there was talk about the dark side of Trek, so maybe we'll get something.

I guess they are dotting all the T's on this one.

What have the two things got to do with one another?

Michelle is 60.

By the time she gets around to Section 31, the woman's going to be eligible for Social Security! (Age 65)

Perhaps now, age is no longer the issue that it's been in the past.
