Shouldn't have done that

I believe it was the late Josepha Sherman (previously discussed) who once pointed out that one of my books could be correctly listed as "TOMORROW SUCKS, Cox."

  • Curing both the Borg and the Trill (that is, making it so they can just join and un-join willy-nilly.)
  • De-Borging Seven of Nine
  • Hugh Cambridge. I'm not against basing a character on a famous actor, but "Voyager" already has a Dr. House with, you know, the Doctor. And Q knows previous "Trek" shows have covered the grumpy doctor already.
  • Starting off "Homecomming" with a bigger Reset Button than the entirety of "Voyager" on TV ever saw: Starfleet stripping Voyager of all it's future technology; ending Seven and Chakotay's relationship as clumsily as it began; and brushing off the Maquis issue with an instant pardon. Oh, and rewinding Seven's personality and Naomi's physical and mental age back to early Season 4.

THANK YOU. I thought I was the only one who didn't like Cambridge. I seriously loathe that character. When I started reading Protectors and saw that he was in the first chapter I literally put it down and didn't come back to the book for a year. He seriously brought down my enjoyment of the Voyager novels, which to be fair started going down anyways after Children of the Storm.

I didn't like his relationship with Seven. It felt forced and never worked for me. He also came across as a terrible counselor. Then there was the fact that he seemed to know everything about everything and came up with solutions that really should have come from different characters. I don't think I've ever wanted a character to go away more than Cambridge (that wasn't a terrible villain anyways). I haven't read the last Voyager novel so in my head he dies a terrible death, and everyone quickly moves on.

Oh man, I hear you! I reined myself in, not wanting to rant, but now I will. He was a straight up Gary Stu.

The dumbest Cambridge moment:

"If it's a society of warrior women, then you're away team should be...women!"

"GASP! Only the most brilliant counselor in the galaxy could possibly have realized that!"

Voyager characters, including the badass women, marvelous in amazement at this astounding deduction.
