But what about the spin off show now that we have a grown up Scarlett Pommers?

Naomi was one of the less objectionable things about some episodes of VOY but...no.

I mean, I don’t have a problem with her. She’s just a character I think would be better to appear on a Seven of Nine spin-off show if one gets made.

But how long could you keep that going and keep it engaging and interesting?

I got the impression the Federation didn't think much of 7 of 9 when Voyager got home.

No-one said it would take place before Picard. Seven is a Starfleet Commander in Season 3.

well yeah, Seven says as much in S2. I think she said Janeway all but resigned to try and get her into Starfleet but they wouldn’t bite.

As for how long you could keep a Seven show interesting? I dunno, that’s a better question for the people clamoring for it.

About as well as Picard (The show has now been reduced to bringing back the TNG cast for S3! )

It's not going to be solely about Seven (hopefully, Raffi and Elnor will be back). There's a ton of dramatic possibilities depending upon which direction Seven is going to go after S3.

Which was always the plan, to bring back some of the cast, it wasn't 'reduced' to anything.

It was also always the plan to have just 3 seasons so it's not like it's a desperate attempt to get viewers or anything.

In case we didn't know the directors, Part 2 of TrekMovie's podcast with Matalas confirmed them all.

    3x01/3x02: Doug Aarniokoski
    3x03/3x04: Jonathan Frakes
    3x05/3x06: Dan Liu
3x07/3x08: Deborah Kampmeier (I'm 90% sure this is who he said?)
    3x09/3x10: Terry Matalas

If IMDB is correct, these episodes will be Terry's 5th and 6th directing credits.

He directed 4 episodes of 12 Monkeys.

I look forward to when the second part has been transcribed. There was a fair bit of good stuff again. Anthony and Laurie really drew as much information out from Matalas as they possibly could without ruining the friendly vibe they all had going on.

Matalas predicts Season 3 will be totally in the bag by late September. As in, everything. He doesn’t know why the higher-ups are holding it until early next year, but kind of wishes it could be a “holiday gift” instead.

The interviewers managed to get him to confirm that a potential post-Picard show is not one of the shows that’s in active production. I doubt that’s surprising, but still. That said, @Danja was clearly applying some kind of voodoo magic, because Anthony and Laurie were very much insinuating they’re curious if a certain character would helm such a series. ;) (And Terry caught on pretty quickly, and knowingly.)

That said, there are ongoing discussions with TPTB. “There are always discussions,” ha.

For his part, Terry pretty much centered on the idea that this is, first and foremost, a TNG finale. But it is also about passing the torch, the next next generation and all that, and we will be meeting some new characters as a result. If fans want more where that came from, they will just have to get loud like with Strange New Worlds. He says he hopes fans respond positively to the newer characters, and believes we probably will.

Money probably. They want to spread all the shows out so people who watch everything Trek will subscribe longer.

Don't pin this on me! :guffaw:

    (See what I did there? I kill me! :D ;) )

I'm a good little Trekkie. I don't do that sort of thing. ;)

In all seriousness, if there WAS anything going on, I doubt he would say anything (NDA and all that).

I hope you're right. If nothing else, I wonder what they're going to have on the slate for late 2023/early 2024 without PIC around. They have to have something in the pipeline.

there is always Section 31. And Kurtzman always seems to bring up a Starfleet Academy show.

Good luck getting Michelle Yeoh (she's going to be tough to nail down for a series).

I'm assuming he's talking about something other than S31 and Starfleet Academy (they're both known quantities -- there's no need to tiptoe around them).

My guess is Starfleet Academy gets revealed in the next few months, First Contact Day 2023 at the latest, and drops early 2024.

Assuming zero overlap and zero weeks off, which we already know is by no means a given but this is why I don’t make the big bucks etc, here is my mental estimate on how things go down from next week’s Lower Decks season premiere forward.

    LD3: 25 August - 27 October
    PRO1.5: 3 November - 5 January
    PIC3: 12 January - 16 March
    SNW2: 23 March - 25 May
    DIS5: 1 June - 3 August
    LD4: 10 August - 12 October
    PRO2.0: 19 October - 21 December

Totally pie-in-the-sky, and with obvious sequential guesswork, but I guess my point is that we could see the next new show in early 2024 and only really get a handle on what the heck it is a year or so off from launch.

(Someone feel free to fact-check my dates; I’m running on fumes IRL right now,)
