The original Dark Horse 6-part AVP comic story would have made a better movie, but that's water under the bridge.

The Predator- it almost seemed like a spoof at times, but I had forgotten how funny a Shane Black screenplay could be (Think Lethal Weapon, for starters), and they policed up the perfect cast to play a bunch of psych-ward commandos. At times I was laughing my ass off, so hard my wife had to ask me what the hell I was watching and how it could be so funny. Although it is fatally flawed as a Predator movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was alright but it did get a bit dark in some scenes. Usually that’s done to his the cgi

I wonder if I liked it because it had vivid colors, and not the Snyder-esque "mood colors" we usually get. Or maybe Hulu defaults to 4k which I am not yet used to, since Netflix has you pay more for 4k.

I wouldn’t say the colour was that vivid. That’s usually what you get in a Michael Bay as he likes bright vibrant colours. Could simply be the HDR.
I watched it on Disney Plus which has this weird habit of stuttering at certain points. I will need to check out the Hulu version when I get it back next month.

Well, that's one thing I like about Bay movies - he also keeps the colors nice and vivid.

Watched it this morning and really enjoyed it. Amber Midthunder was awesome as Naru and if there's any justice in the world this will help take her career up to the next level.
The racists and sexists will hate it, which is actually a good thing in my book.
This was easily my second favorite Predator movie behind the original.
And the dog survived the whole movie!
I thought it was pretty clear she had cleaned herself off in the lake, you could see that she was wet, and she was just finishing off cleaning the rest of her stuff.

    I would go:
    1. Predator
    2. Predators
    3. Predator 2
    4. Prey
    5. The Predator

One thing I noticed is that the Predator didn’t self destruct when he was defeated. Since they like to get rid of any evidence they were ever there, as evident in AvP-R with them using acid to get rid of any Xenomorphs they saw, that could be why others come to clean up his mess.

Not like it really had a chance. There was only a split second where it realized what was about to happen and its death.

I'm not so sure the Predators are that worried about cleaning up after themselves. Even if we take AVPR into account (which I'm loathe to do) it really only dissolved Aliens, which could be more about making sure there's no further outbreak rather than any kind of covering up Predator activity.

Couldn't get into Prey. I thought that the characters were boring, and the set up for the main character was too standard and not done well enough to interest me (person wants to be something that other people/society/etc say they can't/shouldn't be). Adding the Predator to that didn't really improve anything.

A weird thing about the Predator in general is that I like the alien and the concept of them, but I literally don't like any of the movies. I've seen Predator 1/2, AVP and Predators and didn't really like any of them, but I thought Prey's unique set up might be what was missing, but it wasn't, at least not for me. I'd say its probably better then Predators and AVP, but equal with Predator 1/2 when it comes to me not liking it.

I'll give it another rewatch. I do remember really enjoying the characterdynamics. Maybe if I watch it again and focus on that more, I'll enjoy it more.

Agreed. I couldn't get pass an Indian Girl, Mary Sue Feathers, who appeared to be about 5 ft tall has all of the answers in defeating a 7 foot plus Predator, while the men in the movie are all complete idiots. The set up for Mary Sue was standard, and nothing she does, like the other Mary Sue characters I'd seen before like Rae Palpatine, were never earned; even when fighting a gang of men in their camp there's like an invisible force field that prevents her of ever being hurt. When one of her comrades attempts to force her in returning to camp, she manages to take on a full grown man twice her size but the only way the man had the upper hand was by sucker punching her.

I don't want to see my gender fighting a man but the set up invites this crap and it has to deliver something where she should take the punches as well, I mean, could she at least loss a finger from these battles against Lions, Bears, Men and Predator??? I can definitely see why Disney didn't have much faith in releasing this dud in theatres because that movie was designed for limited attention spans and imagination.

It's a well made movie, better than the previous film which was muck. A bit boring though. The story was just your basic predator movie and the "i can be as good or better than the boys" coming of age story has just been done to death in so many movies that the whole thing felt very predictable from start to finish. I would recommend it though.

Definitely the best Predator movie since the first two. Yeah, it was a little predictable, but it was done well and fun. I am a little confused with the ending though...
Why did the mask target the Predator and turn his own weapon into a heat seeker? Wouldn't that take reprogramming the mask?

It wasn't a heat-seeker. The Predator arrows always sought out whatever the targeting lasers were aimed at. We see earlier in the film she learns this by watching the fired arrows all hitting the tree right where the target dots were. Then with her trap, she set up the helmet so that it was pointed right where she planned for the Predator to be.

I think it was more of an override. Without turning on the lasers/guidance the arrows could be shot manually, but because she had its mask and turned on the guidance (without the Predator knowing) when it shot the arrows 'manually' they were taken over by the guidance control of the mask and turned back onto it.

BTW, was wondering about the gun. Since the gun she gets from the trappers is the same gun the Predators 'award' to Danny Glover in Predator 2. Doesn't this mean a Predator will return and fight against her (or a descendent in her tribe) in order to 'claim' the gun as a prize? Somehow its gotta get in the 'trophy room' for the Predators in order to be there for Predator 2.

Then I guess my question is...
How did the targeting lasers activate? Did they activate from the Predator aiming his arrows and then the helmet took over the guidance system?

Seemingly, the lasers come on when the Predator activates the bolt-thrower.

In the end credit art, we see Predator ships coming back to the tribe after the final scene.

Plenty of well-trained small fighters out there, regardless of gender, that can take out opponents twice their size. Plus she's smart, so what? And she lost against the Predator, twice I believe, before winning. Learned how to defeat him. What's the word for that again....? Right, earned her victory. That's it.
The usuall All American White Male hero of these movies are always depicted as having earned their stripes be learning combat and whatever. This movie clearly shows us she learned combat. Her training shots show she is more than capable of hitting a target, just no experience yet with moving targets. Which she, again, learns here.

Mary Sue is an overused term for people who already have their judgement down about female characters before even seeing the movie. There's no winning. They see a trailer, see a young female protagonist and already fill in the blanks before watching the movie. They have already formed an opinion and watch the movie for any small tidbit that can me mis-used to reinforce a falsely established concept. They're not going in open minded.

So, taking all movies into account, the chronological watching would be:
    1. Prey
    2. Predator
    3. Predator 2
    3. Alien versus Predator
    4. AvP: Requiem
    5. Predators
    6. The Predator
    7. Prometheus
    8. Covenant
    9. Alien
    10. Aliens
    11. Alien 3
    12. Alien: Resurrection

    Right?
