Would you consider something closer to rockets for the Earth ships, something that I know Jefferies was avoiding, but would be that utilitarian idea? But I really want to get back to this project, and ideas have been percolating in the back of my mind. Recently I’ve been thinking about Stiles remark that Romulan ships should be readily recognizable because they painted their ships like giant birds of prey. I don’t take that to mean the old Romulan ships were shaped exactly like birds (the TOS BoP certainly isn’t), but that it’s overall form was meant to evoke something predatory in motion while having a menacing avian creature painted on its hull.
Weird serendipity- I have sketches of four Romulan ships from the Earth-Romulan War that I drew about 20 years back that I pulled out about a week ago and started fiddling with to accompany the 20 or so Earth ships I‘ve drawn.
I'd like to see you start your own thread for those designs too, @aridas sofia .I’d love to see those as well.
Thats a great site. I’m familiar with it from many years back. These is this site, the Starfleet Museum. One idea of how things looked.

"Seek inspiration"?I don't buy their whole story, but it's a great place to (ahem) borrow ideas.
Aye for sure. It also could be vanityWithout some kind of wing like structure then painting a vessel “like a giant bird of prey” would amount to putting an illustration of the bird on the hull. It’s interesting the Romulans feel compelled to be that elaborate for vessels that could easily be destroyed in large numbers—seems like a lot of pointless work for something that wouldn’t be seen easily except up close.
Perhaps these ships, not being overly large, are also capable of atmospheric flight. In that event then the elaborate paint scheme would be be more visible to admirers, and victims, on the ground.
Oh, vanity and self-aggrandizement is definitely at play here.Aye for sure. It also could be vanity![]()
I could see that being a bird head..a beak weapon shroud maybe…
