Game The Most Disliked Second Season Episode

"Friday's Child" was an early favorite of mine, Back in the Day, and though in some ways it shows its age, it's a favorite still. My man McCoy plays a substantial role in the story, Kirk and Spock get to show off their wits, and -- holy crap! -- we have Julie Newmar as the featured guest, and she is totally believable as a queen.

Blood Oath has the amazing trio of Kor, Koloth, and Kang, and I should have saved it sooner. The conversation between Jadzia and Kira about whether they had killed anyone was a solemn moment. The look Kira gave to Jadzia on her return without any words was brilliant too.

It is such a shame they fucked that couple up by getting confused about who/what Tyler was. Their chemistry was incredible.

so-so when I first saw it, the "coming of age" story for Wesley, discussing conflict of duty versus screwing important diplomatic relations by getting jiggy, the neat treknobabble device that can rip iron out of the bloodstream*, one of the more interesting adversaries Worf got, great acting, and so on, and all without making Wesley the magic do-all be-all of the universe, it grew on me rather well. Now if only I was a teeniebopper again... or maybe not...

It's a good one, despite the quibbles.

The exercise in management skill-building with Wesley was definitely worthy of some praise.

IMHO, Geordi, Pulaski, Troi, and Data rule, though Picard had a couple interesting points. Worf is just a heartless meanie, with a line that would have been said by Pulaski if this episode were from the first or second episode. In an ironic twist of fate, Data's bluntness to the captain is the most empathic and soulful of the entire group. To top it off, Pulaski - otherwise incessantly debating Data's stake as a sentient being - siding with him is more poignant here than in any other episode because he understands, and it's huge. Bigger than detaching robot arms and fingering his on/off switch. The episode has its faults, but what succeeded was far more impressive. IMHO, of course.

Note that Picard asks distinctly if the species is aware of interstellar life - this is crucial as, generally, the prime directive uses this as a qualifier. Also, Data's antics throughout the episode suggest he should be court-martialed for disobeying orders and preparing cheval stew without a license, but it's all good...
