Not gonna lie, I kind of wish they would have come up with another thing here other than a WOK-level villain.

That sounds suspiciously like the last time the TNG cast were all together, and we all know how "well-received" that was. To me, this is an extremely disappointing revelation.

Has Jil Orra been mentioned yet?

Gul Madred is one of Picard's greatest nemeses. "There are four lights" is one of the few one-off quotes in the franchise that casual fans tend to recognize.

What if Madred's career went through a downward spiral, his bad luck was exacerbated by the Dominion War, and he died in battle? Jil could grow up detesting the Federation for being responsible for it all (from a certain point of view) given that her father and her family's legacy at-large all fall apart like dominos, beginning with Jean-Luc.

EDIT: I do realize this contradicts any claims that it's a character we've never seen. But I think it, perhaps, stretches things just enough for the claim to hold mostly true.

    Huh...

    "Khan" or "WOK" "level villian"

Would, an "Augment" fit the bill?

Beverly's gonna turn bad. Hasn't seen Jean-Luc in 20 years, they say. Spent every day getting more and more twisted.

She needs to run more tests... but now it's the kind Janeway had to deal with in her headache episode.

Oh, it's that kind of twisted. Take two of these and call me in a couple of years.

Beverly went back to ghost sex for the next 20 years. It did not end well.

"Jean-Luc... that young man we're rescuing. He's your son."
    "You said he's 18."
    "Yes."
"That would mean he was conceived circa 2384."
    "Yes."
"Our romantic dalliance was in 2380."
    "Yes."
    "I don't understand."
"...Fine, I had sex with a ghost again."

Lwaxana kidnaps Picard and the old gang has to get back together to rescue him

Other possibilities for the "bad guy" would include Beverly, Vash, Ro, Sela, Adria, Daren, Anij, maybe even Tasha (who's been languishing in some Romulan senator's personal prison for 40 years building resentment against him not rescuing her)

Beverly finally came to the conclusion that something was wrong with the Universe for realz and tries to fix it. And the twist would be that she's actually right. "Fixing" the universe then turns out to be repairing or cleaning the timelines, which eventually only partially works but also not in a too disruptive manner, thanks to our heroes.

The result is a... *cough* (don'tsayreboot, don'tsayreboot, don'tsayreboot!) ...realignment of the timeline, retconning some of the less savoury elements of TOS - but also polishing its visuals.

Hm, I should start buying pitchforks and torches in bulk to satisfy the exploding demand in fandom.

I still think Sela is the logic choice for an antagonist to Picard who has a personal vendetta ala Khan. My concern is Denise Crosby's acting. She was a bit of a cardboard villain in TNG as Sela. If they do bring her back, let's hope that they can make Sela more menacing. And TPTB can deny it but they also denied Khan was going to be in Into Darkness and he was. Heck Andrew Garfield now infamously lied about being in No Way Home. Actors and producers lie all the time to avoid giving away spoilers.

Man, wouldn't it be awesome if the actress portraying the villain turns out to be some serious heavy weight like Helen Mirren, Judy Dench or Meryl Streep?
