I've never understood why TMP has had so many remasters when DS9 hasn't had one, not counting the amazing work done by Ira Behr's DS9 documentary team. Is TMP that popular? Did it undergo a reappraisal, like DS9?
One is 2 hours long, one is hundreds of hours long and would cost that many times more to do.
TMP is that popular, and the more viewers take a second look at the film, they're seeing nuances which didn't resonate before. I don't hear much of anything about DS9 besides this forum, I wouldn't mind seeing a facelift for the first 3 seasons but me thinks many really want the work to be done with seasons that count which was the WAR seasons of 4 thru 7.I've never understood why TMP has had so many remasters when DS9 hasn't had one, not counting the amazing work done by Ira Behr's DS9 documentary team. Every time I tried streaming, they look like crap. Especially regarding jagged edges, more so than for videotaped sitcoms of the same era (1990s). And, you guessed it, the modern techniques to upscale are still very limited. Especially if one is viewing on a screen larger than a 6" smartphone.
I've watched on a 65" 4K TV with HDR and didn't have any real issues with jagged edges.
Which streaming service are you using?
I'd read another on TrekBBS noting issues with streaming quality. Maybe Amazon had poor copies. It's a moot point, Amazon Prime doesn't do Trek anymore.
I’m confused about this poll. Why are we voting for which one we want remastered more, when the OP already makes it clear that one has already been remastered and one hasn’t?
I'm surprised Admin 73I'm generally indifferent to DS9, and I think TMP is absolutely terrible.
So, not sure which option to choose.

Neither the thread title nor the original post makes clear what the question is. I'm also confused...
Not precisely. TNG used more film up until the final cut. It's the same thing they did with TNG, except that TNG didn't have the CGI effects that DS9 had, which is another problem entirely. It's a laborious and extensive project, unfortunately.

The composites were done on tape onto the otherwise finished 35mm master.
For TNG, they had to rescan the original optical effects (some they redid entirely digitally) and recomp everything to a new master but 90% of the editing was already done on film.
The best we can hope for a DS9 remaster is a high quality scan of the betamax master and perhaps upscaling. And despite being relatively cheap, it still would cost Paramount money to do all that - and with the decline of DVD and bluray sales I can't see how they think it would be profitable.
